There's This Now: Renner, Rapace Are Hansel, Gretel, Witch Hunters

At last, the recently-popular trends of dark children's story movies and movies based around generic Halloween costumes are converging: here comes Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters! The film has been in development for over a year by Tommy Wirkola--who's no stranger to combining fads, having directed the Nazi zombie film Dead Snow--and now /Film has news that up-and-coming hot commodities Jeremy Renner and that Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Noomi Rapace, have been cast as the titular nimrods. The horror-action-comedy is said to take a similar tone to Shaun of the Dead, picking up fifteen years after the events of the Grimm fairytale, when the duo are apparently expressing the psychological damage of their youth by murdering a bunch of other witches. I suppose that sounds enough like a movie plot to get by, but I wonder, how will it fare against Michael Bay's 3-D Hansel & Gretel adaptation? That one's going to have BRAND SCIENCE.
