Surprise: Casey Affleck Reveals Joaquin Phoenix Isn't Actually Crazy Rapper

Rest well tonight: Joaquin Phoenix is OK! It turns out all the craziness, beard growing, weight gain, prostitute sex, rapping, and scatology was part of a complicated ruse built around Phoenix and brother-in-law Casey Affleck making a carefully constructed documentary. Who would have thought? Besides me and pretty much everyone else.

Affleck admitted as much to the New York Times, saying virtually none of the situations in the film, including Phoenix's infamous Letterman appearance, were genuine, but added, "I never intended to trick anybody. The idea of a quote, hoax, unquote, never entered my mind." That obviously a lie, but alright, Casey, I won't think of it as a hoax. Is it better I continue thinking of it as just a sad, incredibly elaborate game of pretend a couple grown men engaged in since 2009?
