Jul 26 2010'Walking Dead' Trailer: Zombies Finally Confronted in a Serial Format

walking-dead-con-trailer.jpg

As part of AMC's bid to overtake HBO as Best Channel You Used to Watch for Movies but Now Has Really Good Shows (debate over if this has already happened to surely continue in comments), the cable station unveiled a new trailer for their upcoming original series The Walking Dead at Comic Con. Based on the popular comic and directed by Frank Darabont (of Shawshank Redemption and Shawshank Redemption 2: Magic Clarke Duncan fame!), the series premieres in October--but thankfully, because of people with digital recording equipment and bootlegging ambitions, you can see the Con trailer here:

Excuse me i have to fanboy out for a moment...
*ahem*
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! [flails arms like a small child on christmas morning]

But Michonne better show up eventually.

as a huge fan of the comic series i'd say it looks alright, if a little low budget, but i'd wait until i saw the trailer itself rather than a recording of it. stoked for october!

There's something familiar about this... I wonder how long he was in that hospital for... maybe all of February?

A little low budget? Man its a fucking TV show...its not gonna be a huge 100 million dollar budget! Not to mention you dont need a huge budget for the story. Have you even read the books?

Anyways...this is being filmed in my lovely city of Atlanta and I cant wait to see it on tv!

allergies to hyphens and commas destroy wit and logic... :)

Waking up alone in a hospital after the world has been overrun by zombies?

Hmmm...where did I see that before?

Oh, yeah...28 DAYS LATER!

Did Danny Boyle steal this setup from the graphic novel? Or did Darabont steal it from Boyle?

Or does the trailer misrepresent the story and it's different than 28 Days Later?

I love Darabont. Loved The Mist. WAS excited for this until I saw this trailer.

I was always skeptical about zombie tv series but a few months ago I watched Dead Set. I really enjoyed it and look forward to this as well

The Dead Set Rocked!!! *Not gonna hate on this till I see a decent quality trailer... I couldn't make it all the way through this one.

Frank Darabont directed The Mist? Yeesh. I mean, it wasn't bad, from from the writer/director of Shawshank? That's pretty weak.

I think a serial format is definitely ideal for zombie stories, which are usually pretty episodic and meandering. That said, I'm getting a little bit sick of zombies. There've been what, 50 zombie movies in the last 10 years?

Robert Kirkman thought of his character "Rick" waking up in the hospital during the zombie outbreak independently of Danny Boyle's "28 Days Later". He mentions it in one of the letters pages from the comic book. Purely coincidental. That said, if this series can sustain he level of excellence that the comic currently does, we're all in for a treat.

The thing is the comic book is on episode 74..aug is 75 and Grimes has been through some serious crap. The thing about this series is he meets lots of people on his journey and just about all of them get killed.

***************** SPOILER ALERT*********************
Finds Wife......Best friend flips out and Grimes son kills the guy, Find out wife is pregnant but its his BFF's child not his...they find a prison and this bad ass chick that carries a sword...she ends up getting raped and beat up bad by this mad leader ...she pokes his eyes out he gets mad and finds the prison there shacked up in..hell breaks lose and the prison is overran...Wife is killed why she is pregnant ....cannibals, priests, and zombies.....they find out there being followed by good people that need people like grimes so they ask them to stay and they live in some wierd fenced off community that is creepy in some way but it hasnt showed itself yet ......

First I thought. "oh not not another zombie movie,," but when I red "directors of Shawshank" I must see it now =p

well the main character waking up alone in a hospital in 28 Days Later was originally taken from Day of the Triffids by John Wyndam, the writer Alex Garland has said so himself as the film has many other similarities only killer plants are replaced with zombies...

so they are probably both stealing from Day of the Triffids cos its awesome.

Wow these people have no shame, the beginning is a rip off of resident evil which is a rip off of 28 days later : /

OMG, YES!

@15, I know but still, it seems awesome!

Im so offended about the usage of The Walker Brothers song in the trailer. So stupid!

NORT

I see 28 Days Later when I see parts of this aka the hospital scene.

"Zombies FINALLY Confronted in a Serial Format"? This is not the first time it's happened, you know.
Go away. Watch "Dead Set". Come back. Apologise.

You guys are complete morons. Please read the literature that it is based on before commenting on how the show's trailer steals from previous material. I just have to laugh...

This looks amazing except for the whole waking up in the hospital part, which is quite obviously a direct rip-off of 28 days later. Way to be original! That really leaves a bad taste in my mouth but other than that, it looks good and I can't wait to see it.

you guys ARE complete morons.
walking dead isnt something that just came out this year. it started in 03, on its 12th trade. WD has way more drama and hardship than any just zombie movie would. thats why it HAS to be a series. you wouldnt be able to shove everything that happens, everyone he meets into 2 hours. seriously one of the best comics.

and if you want to complain about "rip offs", PLEASE complain about the ridiculous amounts of remakes. they are remaking every foreign film ever made it seems. the american remakes are being announced before the dvd even comes out in our region.

@ Jon,

The only thing that left a bad taste in your mouth is your dumbfoundness. Please read the source material before you comment please.

Hang on, is that Egg from this Life?

I don't usually read comics because I'm too lazy to read, but this one got me hooked until my friend stopped lending me his books (I'm stingy too). I just have to say, everyone who hasn't read even one book of this series, just keep your comments to yourself. This story is on a completely new level in the zombie genre. The original author (Kirkman) really thought the zombie stuff through. And the art work is not only beautiful but incredibly detailed as well. I didn't really like the way the opening scene was shot, but it's not bad for a TV series. The cast seems great, they really look like the characters. I'm looking forward to watching this, and hopefully my friend doesn't know about this (he probably does) so I can surprise him.

100% rip-off of 28 Days Later. I don't need no damn source material!!!!!

You guys are stupid if you think this is a rip off from 28 days later...

28 days later wasnt even a god damn zombie movie, it was just a bunch of people with crazy eyes and rage virus...

Also hospital wake up scene have been done mmmmannny times =/

I read all the walking dead 1 to 75 i can say its a master peice and hopfully the tv show will be it too.

Also the script for the walking dead #1 was made before 28 days later

didn't that whole waking up in hospital/lab testing room happen in Resident Evil too?

Everyone that is claiming WD ripped off 28 days, your f***ing retarded. I believe I remember kirkman claiming that he even abstains from reading other zombie related works until he is finished with his own. Perhaps a little arrogant, but I can see the reason, less cross inspiration between works.

Everyone whining about people claiming this is a rip off of 28 days later, you're fucking retarded for not realizing you're being trolled by these idiots, hard.

Yaaaaawwwnnn......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Another one? And now a series? My goodness this is ridiculous. If Resident Evil, Zombieland, I am Legend, 28 days/weeks/months later, Shaun of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and the list goes on and on.

Zombie movies from the 80s were great, I feel there's no need for more...because they're just bad.

@33, I am Legend was not a zombie movie.

I hope it's more original than it looks. Also, I am boycotting it because they wreck a perfectly good Pontiac GTO Judge. Why do they always wreck classics? Do you know how hard it is to find a straight, clean GTO? Movie-making bastards.

I can't believe how the black guy from Snatch managed to lose his accent.

Wow...this looks horribly low budget. Dont get me wrong, Ive seen some amazing low budget films, yet a title such as Walking Dead, i would think this would be a huge budget project (at least it should be).

LOVED the comics.

LOVE Frank Darabont.

But this looks awful. I realize it's TV and not film, but there's no excuse. It's so bad that I'm angry I ever got excited about this project.

Michonne played by....Jada pinkett smith?? yeah or no?

is it me or does england have all the best zombie storys? "Dead Set", "28 Day's Later".

A lot of people commenting here have no idea what they are talking about.

Adam- Thanks for the Triffid reference, thought I would have to slap that in there. Does anyone even remember the book, not to mention the bbc mini-series and movie (i might be imaging the movie).

Katix- as obnoxious as you were in your response, you are correct.
