'Martian Chronicles' Could Be Next Inadequate Sci-Fi Adaptation

Good news, science fiction fans: science fiction is so hot right now. With James Cameron's Avatar having proved a sci-fi film could make all of the money ever, Hollywood is being quick to rub its chin pondering, "Science fiction, eh...?"--and not just by making Channing Tatum a dimension-hopping boyfriend. The L.A. Times reports Fox producer John Davis, who has earned absolutely no confidence with his work on prior sci-fi projects Alien Vs. Predator and I, Robot, has optioned the rights to the Ray Bradbury short story collection. While previously adapted into a 1980 miniseries starring Rock Hudson and Bernadette Peters, the new take would presumably use all of our computers and 3Ds and Will Smiths to make The Martian Chronicles into something we can put on the side of a 32-oz collectible plastic cup. And can we make the title just "Martian"? That's so much more "Avatar," guys.
