Mar 8 2010Winners of Them Ol' Academy Awards
Because you demanded certain individuals be recognized for doing a great job pretending to be someone else for a camera, some naked, golden men with swords were handed out Sunday night. Many backs were patted, Ben Stiller tested how long people would politely chuckle at the joke "I'm wearing funny makeup," onlookers were given the painful reminder that Dom DeLuise died, and we the home-viewing audience stared at extreme face close-ups for uncomfortably long periods of time. And then it was midnight.

hurt locker didnt deserve it. AVATAR is the highest grossing movie of all time. i saw hurt locker and it was ok not epic or anything. They gave to her becuse it was the first woman director to win it.
11. Donk Donkerson - March 8, 2010 10:23 AM
Hurt Locker was better than Avatar no doubt but I liked District 9 more than all those movies by far.
12. McFeely Smackup - March 8, 2010 10:31 AM
I didn't know the awards were on until late, so I turned the channel just in time to see Tom Hanks walk out and say "Hello, TheBestPictureAwardGoesToTheHurtLockerThankYouGoodNightSHowIsOver"
seriously, I've never seen an award given so abruptly and quickly, no less one of the most highly coveted awards in all of awarddom.
13. Ananas - March 8, 2010 11:31 AM

15. McFeely Smackup - March 8, 2010 11:59 AM
that Hurt Locker chick looks like skelator. someone get her a sandwich.
also, she somehow forgot to PAY the guy whose life story she stole for this movie. write a check bitch.
16. ELH - March 8, 2010 1:33 PM
@12 by that point in time the show had already broadcasted 30 minutes longer than scheduled, they were going to be pulled off the air.
@15 Have you seen Cameron's new wife, she is all skin and bones. Not to mention at 58 Bigelow is fine. I can't think of other women that age who have aged so gracefully.
I would have been pissed if Avatar won for best picture.
17. Matt - March 8, 2010 1:34 PM
Im gonna say this and say it with pride...but Hurt Locker WAS NOT that good. I watched and it couldnt believe what all the fuss was about. Seriously...I've seen much much better war movies and Hurt Locker is WAY overrated. As regards to Cameron...Im sure he doesnt give a fuck really...he's taking his 700 million all the way to the bank.
18. LMS - March 8, 2010 2:18 PM
I watched Hurt Locker last night and I fell asleep for half an hour when it was 29 minutes in. Woke up to watch the last hour and still didn't seem to miss anything. It just wasn't that good, but neither was Blue Pochahontas, oops, i mean Avatar. I would have been fine if Inglorius Basterds or Up had won - those were entertaining and dammit that's what i likes in my films!
19. Sir Mix Alot - March 8, 2010 3:29 PM
While Hurt Locker is a fine movie and there is a definite argument for catherine winning the best director award, the best picture award is a totally different story. Pound for pound Inglorious Basterds and District 9 are the 2 best movies of the bunch as far as story, performances, dialog, music, cinematography, creativity etc etc. This year's oscar's were an utter robbery from quintin losing original screenplay to sandra winning best actress to the best picture award.
20. bribios - March 8, 2010 3:30 PM
That is a good looking woman for 58, you all are insane. Hell that's a good looking woman for 44. Skelator? That's just how women looked BEFORE McDonalds hit the scene.
Have yet to see Hurt Locker or Avatar but I can tell I'd think Hurt Locker is the much better movie. I have yet to talk to anyone who thought Avatar actually had a good story.
District 9 was amazing. I wish it had a really chance at Best Picture, but like I thought the Best Director category gave away the 5 "real" noms.
21. John - March 8, 2010 3:44 PM
Avatar = overrated because it spent a lot of money being pretty and using technology most films don't have the budget for. Shiny object syndrome. (Not terrible by any means, just overrated. It's only gotten the accolade because it's the vanguard of whats to come not on its own merits.)
Hurt Locker = even more overrated because it is the opposite, low budget.
UP is the only movie on the list for any category that stands out to me as just an all around great piece. District 9 also deserving mention, but if not for the craptastic competition I'm not sure I'd generally consider it a best picture level movie.
Goddamn, what a bad year for movies.
22. n.sizemore - March 8, 2010 9:50 PM
@ everyone who disliked the hurt locker.
first, the academy awards are all about politics. not about who really deserves to win.
second, do yourselves a favor and re-watch the modern classics "near dark" and "point break". if anything just for kicks
third, stop playing beer pong and quoting pulp fiction. it's time to start reading the new yorker and watching terrence malick films. trust me, you'll get way more trim.
23. jaime - March 8, 2010 11:07 PM

Saying a movie should win awards because of successful box office results is like saying Dan Brown should win a Pulitzer.
