Mar 18 2010Tim Burton Making Addams Family Movie
Yesterday evening, enjoying a double feature of The Addams Family and The Addams Family Values, Tim Burton came to a shocking revelation when he was trying to figure out why he hadn't cast Johnny Depp in the role of Gomez.
"'Director... Barry Sonnenfeld'," he muttered in confusion.
"Helena, would you take a look at this? The program guide says Sonnenfeld directed this! Yeah, the Men in Black guy! I didn't make this? But all the pale faces, constant greyness... who'd have thought?"
"Well, anyway," he continued, "I'd better get to work Corpse Briding the shit out of this thing."
And so he is:
Tim Burton has found a new 3D project. He will direct a stop-motion animated film based on Charles Addams' original ghoulish cartoon drawings of The Addams Family. Illumination Entertainment, the Universal-based family film unit headed by Chris Meledandri, has acquired the underlying rights of the Addams drawings, once a staple of The New Yorker magazine.Other than being inspired by the same source material, the animated feature is unrelated to previous incarnations of Addams’ work.
Come on, Tim Burton. The Addams Family? Kind of obvious, isn't it? There aren't many places to go from here in terms of making things ridiculously stereotypically Burton. Your path is now set. It will be this, then an adaptation of Edward Gorey illustrations, then a movie where Johnny Depp plays a gnarled iron fence.

How predictable. I'd like to see a new live action Addams Family.

I don't see a problem with this if it sticks to the original art. He should do the Gashley Crumb Tinies and Edward & Ellen too. I know. I know. But I love Tim Burton's stuff.

Every time Tim Burton is mentioned someone has to ramble off a completely irrelevant Hot Topic reference. Not that I care, I just sort of noticed it and I thought that I should point it out so that you would notice it too. Sure are a lot of culture warriors around these parts I suppose.

Hollywood needs to stop re-making what few precious remnants are left of my childhood.
Also, Raul Julia > Johnny Depp.
My $0.02.

Burton didn't direct Nightmare, Henry Selick did. And he had nothing to do really at all with James and the Giant Peach. Again, all Selick.

What does Raul Julia being dead have to do with him being better than Johnny Depp?

You know what movie from the 80s Tim Burton should really do over? Beetlejuice. He'd be perfect for it.
Also, this is the funniest IWS post I've seen in weeks. Gnarled iron fence, BAHAHA.
