Mar 11 2010New 'Robin Hood' Trailer: Some Sort of Skilled Archer Hero!
New trailer for Braveheart 2: Gladiator! This one seems to clarify that this "Robin Hood" character is some sort of skilled archer that fights for the people--almost like a fictionalized Kevin Coster. Check it out:

Kevin Costner?

I'm as prone to skepticism about this movie as the next guy... I loved Prince of Thieves (not afraid to say it), and this version does feel suspiciously like Russell Crowe playing Mel Gibson playing William Wallace playing Aragorn.
But nobody knows how to make a respectable, technically-proficient blockbuster like Ridley Scott, and something tells me that when this movie comes out, everyone else, critics included, will love it, and our informed criticism will be echoes in an empty room.

Anyone else notice the cardboard shield flapping around after soaking in the ocean for a bit?

Troy was a technically-proficient and respectable but just boring as hell to endure. I want this movie to work and it has the right elements but it looks pretty clear that the entire thing builds up to an "epic" battle on the beach which I dont want to care about at all.

I'm surprised how good that looks. Looking forward to it!

Exactly what is the time period for this? As the nautical technology Vs the infantry technology would seem to that Robin of the Hood has time traveled into a neo future of LHU’s made of wood, an idea easily misplaced by a 100 or so years. A really pretty move to be sure but a “real” story, of at best, a fictitious representation of a myth seems a bit of a reach. Just let it be what it is a generic Arthurian legend that’s best portrayed by a fox and chicken.

it looks surprinsingly bad. like "scary movie" or "hero movie", this "Robin Hood" movie seems to be a cut and past from Troy, Gladiator, Braveheart and the old Robin Hood.
total crap.. i don't even know why they boder really

Looking forward to it, but PG-13? That's kind of a bummer for a Ridley Scott epic.

yeah...what's interesting to me is that while there are certain major similarities and an enduring familiarity between the audience and films like Gladiator and Braveheart...well, it doesn't necessarily preclude this film from being quite well made. I think the aforementioned blockbusters owe quite a bit to the Arthurian Legend from whence Robin Hood springs, at least in part. No Robin Hood film comes without baggage, and this most recent attempt most certainly owes more than a little to the collective mythos of similar films that have come before.
Ridley Scott loves his historical war drama. Russel Crowe digs trim beards and dirty circumstances with a touch of the old 'ultraviolence.'
Robin Hood looks emotionally resonant, at least a little accurate for the times depicted, and probably more than a little entertaining to say the very least, hey? Cheers.

Russell Crowe is a master at his craft and this WILL be one hell of a movie.

seriously?? there's a WW2 d-day scene?! jesus christ.
ps. i hate yahoo trailers. quality sucks (and you can't choose a different one), it doesn't show how much has loaded already, and it has un-pausable ads after.
the worst trailer site in the world.

Wow, Robin's dad was Voltaire; 500 years early. Wow
Also are we calling this beach scene Sword or Gold?

@4 "Troy was a technically-proficient and respectable . . . "
No it wasn't. It was pure rubbish. Speaking as someone who has read the Illiad, "respectable" is not a word you'd apply to Troy. It was drivel. There was little to no understanding of Greek warfare, of the concepts espoused by the Illiad, or of the story itself.
At the very least, as we've seen with Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven, Ridley Scott will not "stick to fact" but he will display a fine sense of historical sensibilty, a familiarity with the multiple layers of myth around Robin of the Hood and certainly epicness.
Not to say the film will be good, but hey Avatar has the most predicable, transparent storyline the universe has ever seen . . . and apparently the world loves it!!

I'm pretty excited. but then again, any movie with horses and sword play are okay with me :) Doesn't have to be 100% factual for me to enjoy it.

I just came back from the theater and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. This new take has great actors, nice costume, great camera direction and a solid story.
The acting is very good and especially Cate Blanchet shines. Max von Sydow's English is getting better with every movie and he can finally portray someone without a Swedish accent.
The costume is well done and almost as historically accurate as one can ask from a movie that tells a mostly fictional story.
There are a few issues of course, that makes me lower the score.
Comical relief is avoided mostly, but could have been left out altogether in my opinion. Luckily the people used for comic relief are not the ones you'd expect.
And the final battle which is a big part of the movie annoys me greatly in it's composition, and you will see why when you watch the movie.
And what in the world *is* that weapon that Little John is wielding? Could they not come up with something more appropriate?
