Mar 12 2010'Avatar' Getting Even Longer, Another Theatrical Release?

avatar.jpg

Did Avatar's 162-minute running time leave you another to see another 10 minutes of mundane parable whitewashed with CGI? JC's got you covered:

James Cameron and Fox are in discussions about rereleasing "Avatar," primarily in 3D theaters, in late summer -- and, tantalizingly, with additional scenes that had been left on the cutting-room floor in the rush to ready the epic for its Dec. 18 release.

Cameron had said that he had 10-12 minutes of extra scenes that he cut and could quickly put through postproduction and have ready to add to a director's cut for a theatrical reissue or as an extra on the DVD release. One scene has to do with Jake Sully's avatar proving himself to the Na'vi people; the other involves a native festival during which tribe member Tsu'tey gets drunk.

God, a Na'vi drunk scene. The glowing bubbles Tsu'tey will emit with each comic "hic!" will be so breathtakingly hilarious.

Let me guess..."post production" means "making shit glow" and "3d stuff popping off the screen while making everything else blurry"?

The movie viewing morons will still say it was visually stunning, so I guess who's to blame. Cameron or people who encourage him?

Seriously people...glowing stuff and bright colors? THAT'S what impresses you? 3D effects that are distractingly unnatural? Well, you'll get what you pay for...expect more of it.

take some LSD and watch it in 4D

"mundane parable whitewashed with CGI"

BEST remark ever.

just can't stop making money...

Ok OK guys...THIS one is gonna flop! I know how everyone said Avatar was gonna flop the first time, and then it ended up being the highest grossing movie ever... but this one is has GOT to flop; i just know it this time! its gotta! right?

(obviously not, but the inevitable re-re-release will, probably... possibly... oh, nevermind!)

wow i used to like cameron but nowadays i cant stand him, hes so full of himself and thinks hes some brilliants genius when he is FAR from it

and avatar was so soooooooo bad

Avatar is the movie version of the video game "Myst".

Not in sense of the story being similar, but the popularity effect. Myst was the best selling PC game of all time (at the time), and everyone raved about how awesome it was. So everyone else went to buy it. But when you played it, it was excruciatingly boring and nobody finished it. But everyone loved it, so nobody wanted to admit they didn't like it, so everyone said it was great. Fact is NOBODY liked the game, but nobody wanted to admit it.

Same with Avatar. Everyone is seeing the movie because everyone is seeing the movie. Nobody wants to be the one saying the emperor has no clothes.

hmm.. but people really are actually enjoying the movie... so...

It's funny how Avatar gets (predictably) huge and suddenly WHAM!, everyone hates it. I go to film school, and all you could hear about was avatar this, avatar that... I went in the other day and I can slowly hear the hipster voice of dissent, "Psssh... I'm glad you trogs liked it, but I can appreciate REAL cinema", and then they go watch another Woody Allen marathon.

I went to go see two things: 3D Machines and Sigourney Weaver (imagine my surprise when I run into the Weavatar... HOT!) I got that. Granted, I had to tiptoe around an eco-parable I saw coming a mile away, but it was worth it.

Between James Cameron being a little too excited about his own shit and the internet hating anything that draws an audience, there's an awesome movie that I'm going to tell my kids about (and when they're old enough I'll tell them to see it stoned).

Now on with Avatar 2, which is hopefully when the humans come back and just tear the planet the fuck apart. I'll pay to see that.

YOU MUST NOT MISS IT!!!

Well mosy say i was impressed by the 3D effects, But a shame was i was more interested in the glasses. But for every one who says it was crap this 3D Movie.

Just think about if this movie never was released on 3D well then we would have else in wonderland (the 3D had no real effect on the movie) that would mean that we would like had too wait like 2 years before we saw the 3D like this,

maybe it is crappy but i must say its a huge step for the 3D world, now with in 5 years we can watch 3D things with all the details so just tink about what the movie almeans to the sience.

(BTW Hurtlocker deserved to win all those oscars - Avatar was good but not as good as Hurtlocker)

i like it

It's interesting that people's responses to Avatar directly reflect the story and characters of the film...
Seems you either fall into the category of having feelt emotionally inspired and moved by the story (which is one of the oldest stories ever told) and wowed by the visual beauty of Pandora and the Na'vi's way of life, or you're a cynical, violence-loving or over-intellectual, materialistic moron who doesn't believe global warming and the loss of species and tribes is a real problem.

Take your pick.

billybob:

I don't know about loss of species and tribes, but I definitely lost a couple braincells trying to figure out what your POINT is.

Now go back to your mass-produced, pop entertainment. You must adore McDonalds'. Are you going to lecture us about that next?

"a native festival during which tribe member Tsu'tey gets drunk."

Uhhhh Jim? Buddy? You see shark underneath you? Yeah, that's a sign you should stop jumping.

@all ya'll hataz: Look, Avatar is what I think of as good, mindless entertainment: simplistic story and dialogue, but enormously fun, with great visuals and compelling action. Whereas Transformers 2, for example, is BAD mindless entertainment: cluttered, confusing visuals, loads of obnoxious humor, incomprehensible story, and hard-to follow action. I'm not saying Avatar is a great film, but by god it's an entertaining film. It's not the film equivalent of a nourishing meal, it's more like ice cream. It may be empty calories, but it's fucking delicious.

Wow. You guys are far too snobby. Chill out. Yeah Avatar has an age-old story, who cares? What movie doesn't? Not many. It takes a inspiring story and throws some theatrics in it... Wow. Shame on them.

Wanna see a bad 3d movie? Go see Alice and Wonderland...

There is a kind of shoes that you will know what it is without to found out the logo. What's this?It has a signature red sole and high heels
