Feb 4 2010'Last Airbender' Football Competition Spot

last-airbender-spot.jpg

See one of those "Super Bowl" commercials everyone fucking talks about before the big "game"! UGO has for you the first look at M. Night Shyamalan's adaptation of The Last Airbender.

I don't know much about the original cartoon, but I do really like how the narration in this seems to be delivered in the second person. It's like I'm watching a Choose Your Own Adventure video game.

"You are the last hope for peace, Viewer! Use your wind force!"

i just violently broke wind, but it CREATED a fireball instead of stopping one...

It seems a bit dishonest to me for the credits to state "Written" by M. Knight Shyamalan....

M. Night Shyamalan is a small turd. Sixth Sense was his only good movie without plot holes that you can drive a tractor trailer through. If you can't write anything creative, just steal it and claim it as your own. Did he think we forgot that the cartoon ever existed? What a hack.

Nickelodeon has said they want this to be their Star Wars.

As a die hard fan of the show (Appa!) I hope it is.

I can't wait to see the six legged sky bison (<----Not a sexual reference)

@ Brian....then look at the top left corner at the :10 mark....see anything?

@ john- nope, that would be unbreakable. coincidentally the last good bruce willis movie. waaay better than aliens that could be defeated by... *gasp* WATER! lol

Yes sixth sense was his only good movie, yes it was ass-a-nine to put "written" by M. night, and yes you can see oppa @ the 10 second mark calmly walking.

Overall, this looks like he's gonna do it justice though. Unlike dragonball, if the movie is bad they haven't revealed it yet as being so. Also the effects didn't look cheap, so yea i look foward to a longer commercial spot like trailer

i too enjoyed Unbreakable

Unbreakable was great, 6th sense was good, even though I dislike his formulaic approach to movies. This one looks pretty good so far!

I'm a HUGE Avatar fan,,, so I'm SERIOUSLY hoping this movie delivers, and M. Night doesn't just queer it up with his sense of "artistic" originality.

This better not be another "Lady int he Water"

I just hope the kid can act. Maybe Shymalan can do other material better than his own. Can't say I hated it, but I need to see more

@Mike - I thought Unbreakable was a great story, until the whole explanation that "comic books are real". The dichotomy between characters was based on mythology was bull. If so, base it on myth. Why didn't he? Because it's bull. It was sloppy. It could have been handle much better. Sure, I'm being picky, but I think that was the start of his sloppiness. Then, came water-melting aliens attacking a world that's surface was composed of 70% water. Sloppy.

that was so cool i didn't even laugh at the crappy "break wind" joke afterwards...

wow that was.... NOTHING... whats special about this???

Honestly, i have no excitement whatsoever.

...

HAHA when it said written by him it refers to the script for the movie not the original cartoon, which has to be different.

Looks mostly empty :/

And what the hell is that accent anyway?

ya know that the superbowl spot is only 30-33 seconds long, shortly after is gonna be the full length (2 minutes!!!) trailer. promised to feature all the main characters. :D

can't wait

This is going to be awful. Just awful. There is no way Shaymalan can do the animated show any justice whatsoever.

And for those of you who are griping that he claimed Avatar as his own intellectual property, are you all that surprised? The tiny man has the biggest (and most undeserved) ego in Hollywood. This is the same guy who is quoted as saying he can take the next Pokemon movie and make it as ground-breaking as Titanic.

Notice they left out 'Avatar'

Didn't anyone see the other teaser that's been out for months now? It barely showed anything but even it was bad ass. Why does everyone always claim shit sucks way before it can be a qualified statement? LEt's all hope for the best, watch it, and then cast judgement.

Because I am certain there are people, unknowingly probably, that hate movies only because they built it up in their heads prematurely that it must be bad. You can write something off in your head, and if you watch the movie you will TRY to look at everything and what is possibly wrong with it. If you would just go in with an open mind, you might enjoy stuff regardless of what you might otherwise nitpick it for.

im going to piss on this movie when it comes out.

Can I really not make it fullscreen? Who designs this stuff?

@21:Our concerns are valid, Oh Eternal Optimist. Movies based on pop media usually fail. We got our hopes up for Spiderman 3. We got our hopes up for Aeon Flux. We got our hopes up for Elektra. We got our hopes up for Signs. And again with Lady in the Water. And AGAIN with The Happening.

Let's face it. This is gonna be crap.

I saw appa

I SAW APPA!!! which means this movie wont suck!!! but its just a trailer so until it comes out i wont judge, im just excited now

Here's my only issue with this "teaser" , Avatar's (blue smurfs movie) teaser trailer sucked, movie was BAD ASS! And what do we have here? an EPIC teaser for a TERRIBLE movie, is my guess....

You know this is fantasy because you have white people playing Asian roles.

I am going to go and see this movie opening night. Around the 20 minute mark I'm going to do two things: 1. empty the ziplock bag full of Campbell's Cream of Mushroom Soup and let it slowly ooze down the sloping floor and 2. take a giant dump (after gorging on tacos and indian food) in the back row then get up and leave.

Just commentary on the film and the director.

It has been a trend to take Asian themed movies and fuck it up ever since, "Bullet Proof Monk", this is going to be another Street Fighter and Dragon Ball movie... It is absolutely sad to see Hollywood admit defeat and they are trying to look for plots from Asia that they do not fully understand.

Cameron's Avatar will echo throughout history while this movie will get left in the dust. When people say "Avatar" no one associates with the juvenile cartoon show, being that Cameron is planning to make Avatar into a trilogy this "Air Bender" movie is done for and forgotten.

AAAPPPPAAAA!!!

I hope that this dosn't become a flop like dragonball z the movie where goku is played by a white kid, i'm starting to have seconds thoughts about cowboy bebop being a movie

all you guys crying about this being "americanized" crack me up. The original POS show was created by Americans.. so STFU about it being "ruined".. it could be written\directed by the entire team of the show and you weeaboos would still be crying about it.

photoshopped

@30
"...juvenile cartoon show,"

EPIC ANIMATED SERIES ,mind you!

I've got few gripes, since I didn't see the original show. I'll just say this: Every child in an M. Night Shyamalan movie acts like a haunted sociopath. Which was fine for a character who sees dead people every day, but doesn't really work for the rest of his movies. I hope he's changed his approach in this film, because there are a lot of kid/teenage characters, and if they all act like emotionally stunted basket cases, this movie is going to be unwatchable.

Also, I know it's a different song, but the music over this trailer sounded too much like Hellbent by Groove Addicts, which was used in the Robin Hood trailer.

@36- well you might want to skip this one aswell, cause the main character had been frozen in ice of a couple of hundred years, and he slowly starts to realize that everyone he knew was dead and he starts to cry and whine, how lonely he is.

but i am gonna go see it cause of APPA!!!

Aang looks cool, but I wonder if he still has his original personality of beeing a bit of a goof? =/
I really hope they don't muck this one up, i loved the anime/cartoon.

@37
Ummm, he only acted like that in the third episode when he returned to his home, and during "the storm" when persons blamed him for abandoning the world during the war.

@36
The series has a lot of humour and along with it's humourous spin it has a lot of action and the show is very well written. You should watch it. The movie, on the other hand, seems darker than the series in terms of landscape and in terms of plot.,but, the creators of the series worked very close with M.Night to produce a film that would parrallel the original despite the costume changes, archatectural changes and, dare I say it...race changes.

Rumour also has it that Firebenders can only manipulate fire as opposed to creating it. If this is so then that might be the worst thing about this movie.

So I plan on watching it!

Architectural changes

Agreed with above. The most likable things about most of the Avatar cast was their personalities and how diverse they were. Katara was the mother, but had her moments of comedy. Sokka was 'sarcasm and meat' guy, but still had his serious moments. Aang was a big goof, but still had his serious side, and Toph was the same. If they remove half of these character's personalities and JUST leave the serious side, turning this into a vampireless Twilight, then D: Not gonna be happy.

Aang does look badass in the Avatar State though.

There sure are a lot of white people in this.

aha sure, eyes glowing

HEY GW,

I HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO POST ON THE SUPERFICIAL'S PAGE FOR 3 WEEKS. I

F I WAS BANNED, TELL HIM/HER(FAT LEZBO) TO GO FUCK THEMSELVES.

Man, there are a lot of idiots out there. If Shyamalan wrote the screenplay for the movie, then he has every right to have his name under the "written by". If it's based on another property, then there will be a blurb that says "based on crappy Nickelodeon cartoon." What, you've never seen a movie before?

Also, Sixth Sense wasn't Shyamalan's only good movie. Unbreakable was also good (better imho). The rest were pure crap.

@45 all true, bar one thing:

'Based on epic elemental-based-fantasy animated series'!
