Feb 18 2010How They Made That Awesome HBO '80s Opening Sequence
Remember that '80s HBO intro where the camera went from a city apartment, through Alec Baldwin's Beetlejuice model, and into space, where the HBO logo was full of lasers? It was pretty great, even when viewed through my home's fuzzy, accidental HBO reception with the knowledge that it would just be followed by another showing of Oh God! You Devil.
Well, here's a short documentary on how they made it, containing some of the great music ever committed to non-fiction. It was basically Star Wars:
Now that's you make a televised movie seem like a fucking Boston concert.

A little late on this one there my friend, this topic was discussed in detail on BoingBoing almost exactly two years ago (look in the comments section attached to the article):

Really? 'Two years ago' on BoingBoing? Wow. I'd say the first time this piece was made public was about 25 years ago, when it aired on HBO. I'd also hazard a guess that it has been viewed many times since then, through a variety of outlets. 'Two years ago' on BoingBoing... Woop-dee-do.

Justin is correct of course. I still remember this "how it was made" film and I still totally dig that opening. Except I remember it usually preceded some late night T&A. Oh Emmanuelle you taught me so much.

I remember this video from when I was a kid too. Cool flashback! That whole thing could be made in under 30 minutes now, by a highschool kid killing time between levels on Mafia Wars.

I remember that, does the quality of the video always looked that bad or is the time that make the films deteriorate?
