Jan 6 2010Warner Delaying Netflix Rentals a Month or So
Bad news: you're going to have to wait an entire month of February before you can rent Sex and the City 2 from Netflix. In an effort to increase DVD sales, Warner Bros. had worked out a deal with the rental giant to delay all Warner rentals for 28 days after retail release. When your neighbor who's one of those rich jerks who just buys every new DVD he sees near the checkout at Walmart starts trying to chat with you about a new release that didn't look good enough for either of you to bother with in theaters, you're going to have to timidly admit to him, "Sorry, I haven't seen that. I RENT things. I'm too POOR and WORTHLESS to indiscriminately purchase films of questionable quality." You've just brought shame to so many non-conspicuously spending families, Netflix and Warner Bros. Thanks.

This is what they call lame sauce.

Any chance they could delay it longer. Like forever? And also from ever being released anywhere ever (including movie theaters)? Any chance? Any?

So, did the WB forget about Blockbuster? Not that anyone goes to a movie rental store anymore.

Netflicks is headed for the dustbin. They've lost countless subscribers because the Blu-Ray discs crack in their flimsy paper mailers. And now this.
I'll be watching all my films through iguide on my new islate from now on.

How can they bitch about declining sales to piracy then hope a group their loyal consumers (sure not as profitable as purchases, but a larger income base) won't notice that they're being F'ed with?
Not to say that I'd do it, as it wouldn't be legal, but I'm sure this will not discourage people from just downloading their stuff from that Napster thing I've heard so much about and skip even the rental cost...
Just sayin'.

i believe that dvd's should only be bought for really significant important movies. those which you might want to see a couple of times a year.
otherwise, buying them just to watch them once or twice is completely pointless. why the hell would i want a DVD of like pelham 123. a few chosen movies should go to your permanent library.
for the rest, just rent.

Didn't this use to be called collusion? I mean where is the TRUST BUSTING? For the divisions to conspire with one another to manipulate the market? Just for that I'm not recycling my 3D glasses from the movies anymore.

This is disappointing. I was putting up with the fact that half the Blu-Rays I get skip or just don't work, because Netflix has been a great company until now. This is just gay. Way to fuck you customers.
11. Nick - January 7, 2010 9:13 AM
Your customers. That's the one.
12. John - January 7, 2010 9:17 AM
...way to fuel piracy even more. Do they really think the people purchasing the DVDs won't rip them immediately?
Then instead of waiting a month and actually paying for it people will simply download it for free...

You do realize that Blu-Ray is the next big dead format, right? And are you just speculating that Netflix is losing customers? Physical media is, like, so 2008.

I dropped Netflix recently because they charge more for Blu-ray rentals. This is just pure gouging. I've been buying movies for years, and I'm paying the same amount for a newly-released Blu-ray that I've spent on DVDs a couple years ago. Even if I'm off on my observation, and if Blu-rays indeed cost a couple bucks more - Netflix has the ability to negotiate lower prices with its suppliers due to the massive volume they purchase.
Nope - Netflix is gouging - trying to squeeze as much from their customers as they can before they go out of business. It's only a matter of time that a majority of folks will be streaming movies directly to their TVs - with a few boomer holdouts who still can't figure out how to program their VCRs.
People who still go to Blockbuster to spend $8 on a rental are retarded. Pretty soon, the same will apply to those who rent DVDs through the mail.

We got a netflix subscription a year ago because the streaming thing sounded good (better than renting physical discs and way better, as someone else mentioned, than buying movies -unless the movie is actually worth watching over and over). Turned out the streaming selection sucked. We hung in for a year, hoping it would get better and instead it got worse as titles disappeared (I guess because TV was unhappy about streaming or something?). So we pulled the plug. And now they're trying to restrict physical-DVD titles as well. Awesome job, guys. This trounces region coding as a stick-it-to-the-paying-customer, piracy-forever act of business idiocy. Until Warner Brothers succeeds in enforcing this same policy with Red Box (they're trying), I'll rent movies from there. Maybe I'll check back in with Netflix in a few years (or whoever has replaced them) if and when streaming gets viable.

Doesnt Warner realize that they will just push more people to downloading movies and they loose moremoney in the end?
This is why their industry sucks. They just cant get with the program. Old Morons.
