Jan 8 2010NBC Making More Terrible Late Night Programming Decisions
Oof, did you see this at my girlfriend site? NBC, the network determined to keep Jay Leno on the air until he dies (and probably for a week or two after that if they have enough Headlines to prop against his bloating corpse), is reportedly looking at plans to move the former Tonight Show host back to his former 11:35 spot, bumping Conan from his bequeathed position to a 12:05 spot.
Great, NBC. Permanently damage your relationship with your loyal, actually-funny host in order to squeeze a few more years of Jaywalking segments in after the local news. Is this somehow all a plot by HBO to get another Late Shift TV movie going? If so, great work.

Does anyone remember how god awful Leno was when the writers went on strike? Does anyone remember how even more hilarious Conan was in that same time frame? Case closed.

Jay Leno is not funny. Conan O'Brian is a God.

@ 1&2. You two are right on the money. NBC shouldn't have even made the damn promise to conan in the first place and they could have just kept going till everyone tuned out of Leno's show. The funniest thing about all this is that HUGE ad campaign that NBC did for leno's new show. LONG LIVE CONAN!

Jay is great, funny and has a lot more experience being on late night. being on at 10 is a little awkward though and I think that that with the change, the show turned into a bit of a game show. It's great that he's taking his spot back

i've heard the NBC argument that Jay at 10pm loses a lot of audience for the local stations 11pm news and I just don't get it. If people want to watch the 11pm news on the local NBC channel after they've finished watching something in place of Jay, they can change the channel. It's really easy. I do it all the time. I like the local NBC news where I live so at 11pm if I choose to watch the news, I push a couple of buttons and change the channel.

Some people (majority of simpleton Americans) will laugh at anything. Im sure all the Leno lovers would still support him if he stood on stage telling the same fart joke over and over again. This is because some people just need the punchline shoved in there fuckin face because they have the sense of humor of a ripped wallet. For all other's there is Conan. Dry humor would go mostly unnoticed with a Leno audience.

Why even bother with a half hour show?
I almost hope that they do fire Conan, so he can go back to New York and get a new talk show on Fox. His show isn't as good in LA for whatever reason. And I think Fox would allow him to have a more edgy show.
Leno is horrible. He has no interview skills whatsoever. He makes fun of his own guests while Conan embarasses himself to make his guests look funnier.

@The Pope
Well said. 100% Agree

I am a big fan of Leno. I tried to give Conan a chance when he gained "Tonight Show" status, but, truth be told, he just isn't funny! I watched probably 10 of his shows, hoping that it would get funnier, and that he just hadn't gotten rolling yet, but no, he's just not funny. Leno, in his new time slot, is still just as funny as ever. Sure, his monologues only have 5 or so actually funny jokes, but Headlines is still hilarious, his guest interviews are always good, and he gets far more laughs from me than Conan does. Conan get's maybe, maybe one laugh from me per show.
But out of all this, you have to remember, Leno has his moments, Conan has his moments, and both have a large following, but at least they aren't as bad as Fallon.

People make fun of Leno's bad puns and cheap jokes and one liners and I agree but seriously Conan? He's the same only substitute it with awkward extended blank stares at the camera and rocking his head back and forth while his hair waves goodbye. Conan's "look at me move awkwardly and non purposefully in order to distract people from realizing what I say isn't funny" hasn't worked in replacing Leno's cheap trick pony jokes since they changed up the late night lineup. It is what it is people. The fact is that ratings for the Tonight Show have dropped considerably since Leno was on it mostly because that crowd apparently doesn't like Conan and similarly Leno's show has suffered unmercifully because they couldn't bother to come up with anything worthwhile more than once a week on it. Here's to them perhaps stepping up and investing in a few quality scripted shows instead....I wish.

since conan moved to l.a. i stopped watching. it sucked, it couldnt compare to the crew and format from new york. i havent watched conan since the big switch. there is nothing that will bring back noel that crazy bastard, abe bagota, and the masterbating bear. they will be missed forever.
andy richter sucks, and conan hasnt really bounced stuff off max and he was a badass.
its not as fun. and i dont like it!
