Marc Webb Directing Spider-Man For Sure Now

In a press release sent out today to people who receive press releases, Columbia Pictures and Marvel Pictures, confirming rumors, announced Marc Webb will be directing the next Spider-Man film. Webb, most notably, earned recent acclaim as director of the indie hit (500) Days of Summer. Also, he has the last name Webb, which obviously speaks volumes about his Spider-Man competence and must be mentioned in any article about this deal.

Executive types explained the decision, saying:

At its core, Spider-Man is a small, intimate human story about an everyday teenager that takes place in an epic super-human world. The key for us as we sought a new director was to identify filmmakers who could give sharp focus to Peter Parker's life. We wanted someone who could capture the awe of being in Peter's shoes so the audience could experience his sense of discovery while giving real heart to the emotion, anxiety, and recklessness of that age and coupling all of that with the adrenaline of Spider-Man's adventure. We believe Marc Webb is the perfect choice to bring us on that journey.

My hopes for the project at this point:

1. That Marc Webb won't try to convince us Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a high school kid. Because he clearly isn't.

2. That it won't be really shitty.

That sets the bar pretty low, Webb. Just manage that and you've already done something that should be ranked at least among the top four Spider-Man films.
