God, Is Robert De Niro Really Doing Another 'Midnight Run'?

Probably. Why wouldn't he be? That's just the kind of thing a man always ready to stack another brick in the Focker estate would do.

Buried in this Deadline Hollywood story about other garbage De Niro is doing, Nikki Finke casually drops that the once-esteemed actor is "mid-development on another Midnight Run," giving fans of the classic comedy reason to either celebrate or weep, depending on how they feel about the desecration of their beloved film.

Thankfully, "mid-development" doesn't necessarily mean this is a done deal. I mean, maybe Charles Grodin won't agree to... oh, right. He agreed to Beethoven's 2nd and the Martin Short-as-a-child comedy Clifford, and then hasn't done basically nothing since. Charles Grodin would definitely agree to do Midnight Run 2.

I guess our best hope now is that current canonical Beethoven owner Jonathan Silverman comes down with something, Judge Reinhold is somehow busy, and Charles Grodin is called back for emergency duty in Beethoven's 7th, leaving him unavailable for a Midnight Run sequel. Which is to say, there is no hope.
