-"Under Our Skin," Andy Abrahams Wilson, director
-"Valentino: The Last Emperor," Matt Tyrnauer, director

I, for one, am fairly surprised by the absence of Tyson, Anvil, and Capitalism: A Love Story. As well as the lack of nomination for Man on Wire, Super Size Me, An Inconvenient Truth, The Thin Blue Line, Spellbound, the entire Maysles Brothers catalog, and Nanook of the North. I don't understand exactly how these things work, but man, those were some good documentaries.

I haven't heard of any of them, and it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I think Man on Wire was last year...

I'm also shocked Capitalism wasn't on there. Not only did I think it was an auto nom, I thought it would be an auto win too. I guess without Bush in the whitehouse Hollywood feels less inclined to suck Michael Moore's cheddar spurting dick.
That said I keep hearing I need to watch Food Inc. The rest of these I've never heard of.

I saw Tyson a while back and thought it was fuckin amazing. I'm really suprised and disapppointed that it didn't at least get a nomination :(

Well, An Inconvenient Truth has been nominated already, surely that's enough--especially since it won 2. Personally, I think "Media Malpractice: How Obama Got Elected and Palin Was Targeted" is missing from this list. Great documentary.

No kidding, Gordy. If you're going to blow your wad wishing that the libtard docs made the list, you could at least pretend to have an interest in a conservative documentary.

Are you retarted? Man on Wire, Super Size Me, An Inconvenient Truth, Spellbound - all of these were nominated, Man on Wire and An Inconvenient Truth even won. And Maysles brothers were nominated for Christo's Valley Curtain.

Supersize Me was one of the best documentaries ever. Funny AND informative. OH has anyone seen SuperHigh Me? The documentary where the guy smokes pot all day everyday for a month and they test him of different stuff? Friggin hilarious and actually interesting, I highly recommend it.

CHRIST, PEOPLE!!!! That's the joke! IWS writer is just rattling off a couple documentaries that he HAS heard of, all of which have had their shot at an Oscar. This is getting out of hand, we need to come up with some kind of way to write sarcasm so it doesn't go flying over peoples heads. I guess in the meantime just assume that the last paragraph is probably a joke, since that's pretty much always the case.

I'm pretty sure "The Cove" and "Facing Ali" are going to make the final cut. "Food, Inc." might also if just on the sheer amount of advertising they put out on facebook.
Money says "The Cove" for the win.

just to nitpick... nanook of the north wasn't really a documentary, as Flaherty took eskimos living in modern ways, with guns, and asked them to act as their ancestors had, which they didn't do. it was more of a reenactment.
let's not forget Flaherty's louisiana story, either, which was funded by oil companies.
