Oct 14 2009So That's Why There's a 'Prince of Persia' Movie Being Made
Why is a Prince of Persia movie being made? Good question. Answer: because, six years ago, Jordon Mechner, a writer on the Prince of Persia series of games, used game footage to piece together a pitch trailer for what he envisioned as a film. Jerry Bruckheimer took note, decided he could make a billion dollars if he took off Jake Gyllenhaal's shirt and put him in that film, and the rest is history. (Or is it the future?)
So where is that pitch trailer now? Oh, here it is--DIGITALLY:
I think showing Aladdin with the Genie parts edited out would have been more effective.

This doesn't look like a movie trailer at all. And this was the game trailer I saw when the game came out like 200 years ago. How is this relevant past the day that the PoP movie was announced?

Don't you mean "movie" and not "moving"????
I expect more out of you!!!

um this is for the game not the movie

Even though he can't spell, it is simple to follow. The creator of the game took footage from the game and made it as a pitch to studios for a movie. This is the video he gave to studios.

JamieT: Thank you. I fixed it now. And never expect anything from me. I rarely deliver.
godmodeON, Turd: The trailer is the pitch, composed of game footage, that ultimately sold Jerry Bruckheimer on the idea of a Prince of Persia movie. As was already explained.

Is that not just the commercial for the video game from years ago?

Wait, I don't get it. This is a trailer for the game that came out 200 years ago? Why would they pitch a game idea to Jerry Bruckheimer? This is the worst movie trailer I've ever seen. Where's Jake Gyllenhaal?

Jordan Mechner isn't just SOME WRITER on the Prince of Persia games, he created the entire franchise and made the classic first game virtually on his own in a garage. He hasn't been responsible for some of the latest games though, only serving as a creative consultant.

this movie will definately feature a duet of "A Whole New World" in it, huh. Will Jake Gyllenhaal have a computer animated Iago to converse with during the film?

Jordan Mechner is not "a" writer... is THE writer of Prince of Persia since their inception,
If he greenlights the script and the finished product, he can have my bucks :)

If the Prince of Persia Movie is an adaptation of the original SOT game it might actually be good.

I am actually willing to give the film makers the benefit of the doubt on this one. I hope they wrote a good enough story that does not make the prince a whoosie. And I hope they don't overdo the CGI. Honestly, I think there is a possibility of this movie being really awesome. The curiosity of how it goes is enough to make me spend $10 on a theater ticket for it I think.
