Oct 30 2009New 'The Road' Trailer: Big Budget Bumfights
It's still hard to tell if The Road is going to be an overblown Roland Emmerich of a mess or a post-apocalyptic classic that will do its source material proud, but just from this new trailer I'm ready to give the film its first two awards.
Award 1: Best Score That Makes Me Think the Trailer Will End with Someone Landing on the Moon. I'm not sure if this is the film's actual score or a track lifted from a classic I'm failing to recognize, but hearing it has me on the edge of my seat waiting for that American flag to strike the lunar surface.
Award 2: Most Disarmingly Gratuitous Use of the Wilhelm Scream. If you're going to be that blatant about it, it should at least be followed by a cartoon "splat."

That wasn't the Wilhelm scream - the Wilhelm is in a higher pitch.
2. Nathan - October 30, 2009 6:30 PM
Indeed, not the Wilhelm Scream.

The movie looks pretty awesome....but that scream just spoils the intensity I was feelin in this trailer. I HATE it when movies use that shit...jesus christ make up a new one!

I hope it's as bleak as the book.

That sounds nothing like the Willhelm scream. It's from a video game...I just can't place it right now. Thought Streets of Rage, but that's not it. Anybody?

More then likely that scream was just used by the trailer house - I doubt it's in the final sound mix.
That stuff happens in trailers all the time.

They use it in Starcraft
9. chris - October 30, 2009 10:24 PM
It's a TIE fighter.

Certainly NOT the Wilhelm scream. It is the TIE-fighter scream.

I heard the exact scream in Crash Bandicoot.
I was surprised and disappointed when I heard it in the last trailer. I didn't believe it was the film's official trailer but rather something spliced together by a fan who made poor sound effect choices.
This trailer is shit too. I really want this film to do well but this is terrible marketing.

I saw the movie at an advanced screening at the Director's Guild of America, and I can tell you right now, that this movie is freaking amazing.
It's nothing like some Zemerrick piece of crap. There isn't any crazy chase scenes where things are exploding and they're being shot at.
This thing is so bleak and that little kid is one of the best child actors I've seen in years.
This trailer does a really good job of trying to make this appeal to a larger audience by making the movie seem like some sort of epic hollywood crap.
16. Mick - November 2, 2009 2:25 PM
It's the one from StarCraft
17. Anna - November 2, 2009 4:05 PM
It is a popular scream used in many movies (my first exposure to the one they used here was in Ahhh! Real Monsters), but it is in fact NOT the wilhelm scream. You can see the Wilhem Scream here

Enjoy! :)

The movie looks good but the music in the trailer at the end was definitely inappropriate. It might have worked if it was only used in the last few seconds.
19. Scott - November 2, 2009 9:21 PM
@MBLem113 What the crap is Zemerrick?
20. bill - November 2, 2009 9:58 PM
it's the broken arrow scream.
21. Windier E. Megatons - November 3, 2009 10:00 PM
The music is by James Horner, from the end credits of "Ransom." It was previously used in the Road to Perdition trailer, where it worked roughly a kajillion times better. Here it just seemed horribly out of place.

Music sounded ridiculous. What's this uplifting crap?
Here's a superior trailer for it, if they haven't stripped the music out yet.
