Oct 20 2009New 'Sherlock Holmes' Trailer, Dudes!
Dude! Last night, during the ball game, when you went to pick up more Milwaukee's Best Old BrewDog Lites, you fuckin' missed this new Sherlock Holmes trailer! You gotta see this shit! Iron Man is all like BOOSH punchin' these goddammers! S'all good, though; I internet taped it for you:
(Note: I only know this aired during the game because I ended up half-watching it while working on something last night, so my criticism of imagined baseball-watching douchebags is largely hypocritical. Oops.)

this is going to be a fun adventure action movie, but let's get one thing straight - this has nothing to do with Sherlock Holmes, with spirit of the book, with nature of his character, with British tradition, style, way of life, etc... title "Sherlock Holmes" was used purely to put famous name on otherwise nameless project.. i will watch this, pretending this is just a decent flick about two educated british dudes who kick ass, which actually what it is.. but not "Sherlock Holmes"...
5. Timbo - October 20, 2009 3:47 PM
It's called "modernizing"
6. first haha - October 20, 2009 4:32 PM
Dude sherlock was actually a martial artist in the books. #4 is a faker that doesn't know his shit but acts like he dopes because it's the internet and it's cool and shit. fag.
7. Oh crap - October 20, 2009 4:34 PM
I'm not a big Sherlock Holmes fan, so I don't mind updating. I actually like the idea of him being a quasi degenerate, having bad hygiene, etc. Those parts seem like nice contrasts to the genius crime solver bit. But making him an action hero? Rolling around dodging bullets? Jumping head first out of windows? Slow-motion shirtless boxing? Come on.

I don't know any baseball fans, so your impression is going to be my only concept of them.
9. weee - October 20, 2009 5:17 PM
in the books holmes is also very keen on snorting cocaine
10. White667 - October 20, 2009 5:41 PM
@9 He doesn't stick only to cocaine, in the first few books he takes a LOT of drugs, the last few books he doesn't take any, they reflect the time they were written.
And he is a super hero, that's the whole point. Just shut up about the action parts, that is in the books. I remember that one about the snake, he set up a flipping stake out.
People who complain about this movie are pretty much all either people who haven't read the books, or are American,
I'm looking forward to this

I agree with #6. I was so sick of Holmes just resorting to that brilliant deduction bullshit. A generic action movie is way cooler than actual Sherlock Holmes.
12. Beastman AIDS - October 20, 2009 8:19 PM
i'm going to watch the shit out of this movie
13. first haha - October 20, 2009 8:32 PM
11 is a retard. Have you actually read all of the stories? Cuz you sound like the typical American that thinks "Hey Sherlock Holmes always has a magnifying glass and says 'that's elementary my dear watson" lol. You just don't know.
14. Skoob933 - October 21, 2009 7:06 AM
That is the best Indiana Jones trailer I have seen in years. I thought George Lucas was washed up and Harrison Ford was too old, but i have been wrong once before........

As for the comments about "Typical Americans" and "Hollywood" not understanding Sherlock Holmes as well as the Brits, I would refer you to the film credits, under the heading "director". Whose name do you see? Guy Ritchie, the guy responsible for "Lock, Stock.....", "Snatch", "Layer Cake", and "RockNRolla", all thoroughly British crime/action films. Anyone contending that this "Holmes" film is an American bastardization of Conan Doyle's stories clearly doesn't know who's behind the movie. Ritchie is one of the UK's most successful cinematic exports, and this is his baby. This isn't about which country better honors ("honours") or understands the literary Holmes; it's about watching Downey Jr. kick some ass without the help of a sweet robotic suit.
18. first haha - October 21, 2009 7:30 PM
It's the retards in here that are the "typical americans," not the makers of this movie. They're nailing down what actually is Holmes but everyone here is focusing on the stereotypical image of what Holms is supposed to be like because they caught 3 or 4 references to it while they were growing up.

#14, I think the real question here is have you read the books? If anything, I find this interpretation of Sherlock Holmes much closer than previous representations of his character in film, cartoon, and television. It is those interpretations that have skewed Holmes image, not this movie. Holmes, in the original stories, was described as quite the formidable fist-fighter so him fighting in this movie is far from off. You claim him to be studious in his cleansiness. Yet, in "The Case of the Dying Detective, Watson states, "His incredibly untidiness [...] made him the very worst tenant in London." Another example is from "The Adventure of the Musgrave Ritual" where it is stated, "...he was none the less in his personal habits one of the most untidy men that every drove a fellow-lodger to distraction." The first two paragraphs of that short actually elaborate on Holmes' untidy nature.
So I don't see how this film is being unfaithful. Holmes was a fist-fighter, Watson was never explicitly stated as being a portly fellow, and Holmes never actually wore his now famous deerstalker and cloak wardrobe. All of these things, and a lot of the other things Sherlock Holmes' is famous for (including the famous line "Elementary, my dear Watson") were never in the original stories. They are merely products of the sometimes misinterpreted portrayals of the character, ones that were never canon.

god, you people have to much fucking time on your hands....
21. Chrigod - October 23, 2009 5:03 AM
Wow, to #21, people may say you have too much time on your hands, and this may be correct, but that post was bloody detailed and backed up with solid evidence. You clearly know your stuff. Kudos to you, sir. People listen to him. Or just look on Wikipedia like I did. It's all there, and from what i read there (plus i have the books here so I'll read them myself) it all seems to suggest, like #21 said, that this film is in fact quite accurate.

@21. respect.
24. Sharlock Helmes - October 24, 2009 12:12 PM
You know, some people have seen this movie already... You're going to want to check this shit out. It really incorporates every awesome element of the character and blows your nuts off with badassery. Some of the narrative and the action is pretty damn original, you'll be surprised. Wait, does talking about an NDA break an NDA?!
25. Frank - October 25, 2009 3:09 AM
Regardless of accuracy, I get the impression it will be fun but stupid.
26. McBeties - October 25, 2009 10:47 PM
@6 Actually he was a boxer and fencer. He never studied any Martial arts.
27. megapie - October 26, 2009 12:14 AM
ROFL @ 1:53
28. calefacient - October 27, 2009 8:18 AM
@27 Strictly speaking a Martial Art is any taught system of combat so boxing and fencing are martial arts. It is just the case that the term martial art is assumed to be related to Karate, Kung Fu and other Eastern forms of combat.
Besides don't forget the incorrectly named Baritsu (or Japanese system of wrestling) that Holmes used to send Moriarty over the Reichenbach Falls.
29. ile - October 27, 2009 1:55 PM
i like it!
30. Koris Barloff - October 27, 2009 4:40 PM
Jeremy Brett was the ONLY Holmes!!!
P.S. Jon Pertwee was the ONLY DR. WHO!!
P.P.S. Peter Lorre was the ONLY MR. Moto!
AND To #30 comment.... Wasn't it odd that 2 such intellects like Holmes and Moriarty should fight to the death for it?? I always though they should have played chess or had a violin vs. bassoon duel.
31. FireFlyNexes - October 27, 2009 7:05 PM
This already looks like crap. I'm a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes so that I'm sure has something to do with it.

13: You have an irony deficiency. 11 was being sarcastic.
