Oct 15 2009'Edge of Darkness' Trailer: Never Kidnap/Murder Mel Gibson's Children

edge-of-darkness-trailer.jpg

Things you'll be glad you get to hear Mel Gibson say with a questionable Boston accent in the trailer for the new cop-investigating-his-daughter's-government-tied-murder thriller, Edge of Darkness:

- "Welcome to hell!"

- "I'm the guy with nothin' to lose!"

- "Fasten your seatbelt!"

- "You had better decide whether you're hangin' on the cross... or bangin' in the nails!"

Things you'll be disappointed Mel Gibson does not say at all, even though he obviously should:

- "Give me back my daughter!!!"

See for yourself:

I guess we'll have to wait for Ransom II: Re-Ransom.

Why was he using a geiger counter in the fridge?!

despite the painful cliches, it doesn't look that bad... I thought it was going to be: man's daughter gets kidnapped, man goes on rampage to rescue her, kicking ass on the way there, brings her home, smiling as if she just got home from summer camp (i.e. Taken)

but I'm not sure if you guys have missed this, or just don't care (I'm leaning towards don't care) but his daughter isn't kidnapped, she's killed... than he learns that SHE was the intended target all along...

So this is a remake of Edge Of Darknes from 1985? That starred the dude who played the gamekeeper in Jurrassic Park. He drove about in a bitchin white porsche and was stoic and gentlemanly like any UK TV hero.

I think this might be a little different in pace ...

Looks better than most action movies I've seen lately. The cross line totally wasn't thought out though. Clearly he's saying that he's going to be the one killing him(banging the nails). So if the bad guy's on the cross that makes him Jesus. Since is being called Jesus an insult or something?

A man's daughter is kidnapped/killed and he wants to get her back/revenge?

Well, I've never seen this movie before. Wait, what was that Gerald Butler flick that just came out...

@#4 More than Jesus has died on a cross. In fact, 2 people were there with Jesus, and both were criminals.

About the movie now, looks like it's one of those movies that will either rivet you or bore the crap out of you.

A guy from Boston who is most likely Catholic as hell? Refering to someone nailed to a cross besides Jesus? Yeah. :D

I am just glad to see Mel on the screen. I like his all of his movies I have seen, he is good at both directing and acting.

Oh holy mother this movie looks BAD.

I kept thinking "oh wow, he's gone back to his Australian accent" then I realized by the end that he was trying to put together a Boston accent.

@4,@6

uh more people than just the two criminals were crucified by the cross...it was a form a punishment and humiliation, it was used by the Romans, Persians, and i think the Greeks as well.

This movie is a remake of the classic BBC thriller Edge of Darkness.
It's the same director and the best thing the BBC ever did, period!

The original had Bob Peck as the hero who's daughter is gunned down in what seems like an assassination attempt on him (he was a policeman in Northern Ireland handling IRA informants). But as the story unfolds, it is his daughter with a past filled with secrets.

It turns out that she'd been breaking into nuclear research plants to uncover evidence of wrongdoing.
Various agents and agencies want to know what is going on in this secretive world of nuclear subterfuge and Peck allows himself to be played by the various spymasters in order to uncover what his daughter was into.

The original won more awards than any other programme in BBC history.

I cant recommend the original highly enough. It's ferociously dark and moody with amazing performances and an utterly gripping storyline. The whole thing runs around 5 hours so make sure you have 5 hours to watch it because the moment the first episode finishes you'll be gagging for the second.

Imagine a series like 24, but with tension instead of action and genuine real world terror instead of make-believe terrorists and you're somewhere close.

He's too old for this shit.

I think they were refering to the specific day Jesus was crucified. Two other criminals were crucified at the same time.

And I think that quote is not comparing anyone to Jesus, he is pretty much saying "Do you want be killed or be the killer." Come on guys, it wasn't that hard to figure out.

They should have named this movie "Sugar Tits"

Looks worth a watch. His daughter is obviously killed, you people are slow.

Taken 2

(before anyone says anything about her being dead, I mean taken as in permanently)
