Because that's when Spider-Man 4 will be released, "web-slingers!" This article from yesterday's Variety claims director Sam Raimi and stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst are on board, with the script being written by Gary Ross.

Ross's previous writing jobs have been a bizarrely mixed bag, including Big, Pleasantville, Mr. Baseball, and the film that gave Kevin Kline his most memorable dual-role, Dave, so it's anyone's guess what this guy is going to come up with for a Spider-Man movie.

I wonder what happened to the talk of a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright writing the script. I'm just going to assume Raimi switched writers to find someone with more experience in writing the themes he has planned for the fourth film. Meaning his ideas for Spider-Man 4 probably revolve around Spider-Man magically aging, magically entering a '50s television show, playing baseball as Tom Selleck in Japan, and being both the U.S. President and someone who looks so insanely similar that he can pass as the U.S. President. So, basically, it's already way better than Spider-Man 3.

Can't we have BOTH writers?!?!?! I always thought highbrow-lowbrow was the Stars and Stripes of the Raimi flag...

First!

What a disaster! Gary Ross films are universally terrible. Oh and snaggletoothed Kirsten Dunst is back? She adds nothing to the film series and she's (literally) long in the tooth at this point. Toby looked fat and tired in the awful Spider-Man 3. I think they should reboot the entire franchise. At this point can't most of us agree that the Spider-Man films are pretty sucky?

Only the the third sucked, but it sucked enough to cover for all three.

@4 Amen.

The first one was pretty good. It introduced some changes to canon that even non-nerds and non-"fans" like myself could notice (not counting people like the dude behind me who was bitching about the color of Mary Jane's eyes), like his wrists pooping spider webs. But once you got past that, it was good. Then the second was just pretty darn good. Then the third...

Oh, what you guys said are not exactly the truth, just found some more new detailed info about this topic on a perfect blog of -----------interracialsearching.com------you may enjoy more as dating, news there.

Interested to see what they do with this one and how the characters will evolve.

3 words: No Flying Surfboards! Raimi could have totally thrown harry osborne in as the hobgoblin on a glider insead of that stupid thing. Or just left the 3rd villian/eventual friend out all together. Much more Venom would have been great too. Spidey has so many great villians but they really need a great script and story.

And now that Disney owns Marvel I just can't imagaine how much gayer they are going to make spidey!!!! We already had emo Spider man in the last one!!

After finishing the second installment of any movie series, I imagine the creators are thinking "oh great, we have to do another one?" if Superman and the second Star Wars trilogy told us anything

She adds nothing to the film series and she's (literally) long in the tooth at this point. Toby looked fat and tired in the awful Spider-Man 3. I think they should reboot the entire franchise.
