Sep 1 2009'Deadman' Movie Happening

The long-ago talked about Deadman movie is finally happening. Variety is reporting the pale DC comics character with the plunging neckline will be brought to screens by Warner Bros. and Nikolaj Arcel, director of Island of Lost Souls. So take that, Marvel/Disney team-up: Warner Bros. has got Deadman! Yes, the rights to the '70s-collared superhero are so worthless they can be paid for in sandwiches, but still, Warner Bros. has them.

Billy Bob Thornton!

when did Mignola draw deadman?

@2- I was just wondering that...

Wow!!! Way to go DC!! Rockin' it out with the movie projects. They can't get a good Superman movie made but this thing. Really? Hopefully Green Lantern will be worthwhile. Deadman isn't even a fringe character.

In theory, Warner has ALL the DC comics characters. They own DC comics, after all.

That's right. Bugs Bunny beat the mouse to the comic book house.

this could turn out to be really really good or crash hard ... Joe Pesci could do it well , he's got the NY accent

This is actually a really good choice. I think it could be one of those movies that comes just under the radar and then does great.

And the picture is from Mignola's cover art for "Deadman" #3.

Just because Deadman is not a first ballot all-star or a member of the Justice League doesn't mean he's without value. He's got some worthwhile story-lines and since he's not a big name won't come under the same scrutiny and hype that a big name character would attracted. Sort of the DC version of the Blade movies. Those didn't turn out so great but first one didn't suck completely and I kind of liked the second one for what it was. And it introduced Guillermo del Toro to American audiences.

I don't know Arcel, but if he's got any talent a project like this could be a great showcase for it.

Long time reader, first time complainer: The director of The Island of Lost Souls (which the best version of the Island of Dr. Moreau and features Bela Lugosi as the speaker o' the law) died about 30 years ago. Imdb says Arcel is developing a version of that film (or is at least using that title), but let's not give him the credit for a truely cool horror classic.

yeah...sigh. We're talking about a company that owns 3 of the biggest superhero icons of all time and has successfully made a movie out of....one. In the past 20 15 years.
This is the company that decided that Joss Whedon, a writer famous for writing great female characters, couldn't do well with Wonder Woman.

At least if Deadman sucks no one will notice or care.

yeah yeah - there's no way to edit comments once you hit that post button and i was in a hurry. so 20 years or 15 - depends on what you think of the previous Batman movies.

Must See!!!
