Rob Zombie has decided to film another remake of The Blob, eliminating the one element I would consider definitive of The Blob:
`My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing, that’s the first thing I want to change,' Zombie said. `That gigantic Jello-looking thing might have been scary to audiences in the 1950s, but people would laugh now. I have a totally different take, one that’s pretty dark.'
Yeah, fuck that big red blobby thing, also known as "The Blob." Not a necessary component. Should probably be reinterpreted as maybe a large, ruthless hilljack who calls himself "The Blob." That's only logical.

GAWD I hate hate hate Zombie. His movies are just like his crappy band; overly dramatic and hacky with chee-z make-up.

Forgive me, I posted the same thing over at Variety as well.
Rob Zombie is a terrible screenplay writer and an even worse director. This guy is so full of himself, "...the first thing I want to change,". If you're remaking another film then "remake" it. If you're going to change a bunch of stuff, then change it and call it something else, its a pretty simple simple concept. That way you don't piss off fans of the source material and you end up looking (hopefully) like you made a new film that was "inspired by" the source material. Lets face it though, Zombie can a make a film and call it whatever he wants its still going to suck. Maybe the way his "blob" will be scary is that it'll have long greasy hair, ride a "hog", and it rapes people. While that's happening his wife will do that stupid laugh while Thin Lizzy or Bad Company plays in the background.

It's still gonna be a blob.. just not a cherry jello blob. I'm gonna guess something more along the lines of Tetsuo from Akira. Imagining that in live action seems right up Zombie's vision.

Rob's remake of the Blob is an autobiography of his career... An oozing mess that absorbs old ideas, then shits them out.

Rob Zombie takes classics and remakes them for the modern age to enjoy. His take on Halloween was beautiful, I think. He updated it for the new age of horror, which at this time, isn't hack/slash, but psychological horror and lots of gore. You can only do so much with a remake while still trying to make it good for the modern age/audience.

studios need to stop funding robert zombie and his pet projects of (re)making any kind of film. if he wants to destroy classics he should get in touch with the Syfy channel. they're always hiring terrible, wannabe filmmakers.

Okay, seriously Rob is making himself out to be that guy who remakes a movie and decorates it. This is ridiculous.
We need a Zombie original now. This is slightly disappointing. The Blob was meant to be left alone.
