Aug 18 2009'Castlevania' Almost News: Movie to Include Basic Game Elements!

castlevania.jpg

Breathe a sigh of relief, Castlevania fans. Speaking about the long-planned film adaptation of the video game, Paul W.S. Anderson (producer on the project and director of horrible video game adaptations like Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil) said Saw's James Wan is currently working on "tweaking the script" to direct at some point in the future, and, more importantly, revealed that the adaptation will contain the most very basic elements that make up Castlevania:

“There’ll be the whip and there’ll be creatures,” Anderson said, referring to Simon Belmont’s weapon of choice and the mythical beasts he battles as he makes his way through Dracula’s castle in the original video game.

A whip and creatures!? This thing is already as accurate as the Castlevania Tiger hand-held game! I'll keep you updated if I hear news about the possible inclusion of a Dracula or any sort of castle-like structure.

Two confessions:

- I kind of like that Resident Evil movie, even though I admit it was pretty bad.

- I had an even older Castevania Tiger handheld game (the graphics in the one that was linked too look way to good to by the one I had), and it was awesome.

Come on! Everyone loves the Mortal Kombat movie! It went as well as it possibly could have. I think I still have the soundtrack on cassette somewhere.

did anybody else have to flush their DNS to enter IWS and geekologie?

I'm with Fiona. The Mortal Kombat movie and soundtrack were pretty much the definition of awesome.

I was 13 when I watched Mortal Kombat in the theater. I can remember thinking the movie was alright, but it was the awesome ass soundtrack that stuck with me for the remainder of my geek youth.
It's nice to see Anderson found time to crawl out of Milla Jovovich and create a "new" adaptation. However I think his next project should be "Resident Evil 6: the explanation for the raining frogs in Magnolia." I'd watch that shit twice.

I don't like this type of video games..

I thought the 1st Resident Evil and all Tiger Handheld games were awesome. But I was probably wrong.

What is DNS?

@3 No, just you.

Awesome artwork with this post!

These morons only care about "glitz" and put very little to no effort in story-telling, so here's how it should be:

90 minutes of nothing but side-scrolling action where a guy jumps over stuff, fights monsters that come at him from the right of the screen, picks up "buffs", and his whip changes three times (once per "act"), from a standard whip to a multi-pronged chain whip. Each act ends with a boss battle.

There. Script is in the can. Where is my check?

I heard they tapped Thomas Ian Nicholas for the part of Simon. Truthy?

is that count chocula in the background of the poster.

The first Resident Evil was amazing.

2nd and 3rd? Not so much.

You are confusing Paul W.S. Anderson for Paul Thomas Anderson. Easy enough to do considering the names. The best way to tell them apart is that Paul Thomas Anderson has made some good movies.

I did like Mortal Kombat when I saw it as a kid, but I haven't seen it since then. I'm sure if I watched it now I'd only lose even more respect for myself as a child. It sucks watching the things you loved as a kid, since more often than not you realize that it was actually pretty crappy (TMNT movies, G.I.JOE cartoon show).

Wow, the burly dude in that painting is blatantly, painfully, stolen from a Frank Frazetta painting. Real classy, Castlevania. Is the movie just going to be a mashup of clips from Conan and Dracula?

Simon Cowell as Simon Belmont

Resident Evil and Mortal Kombat were awesome movies (for me) and it Castlevania will be a movie soon, I just hope that it turns out to be a good one too. Well, World of Warcraft will be directed by Sam Raimi so I'm expecting there would be more games like Aion Online that will hit the big screen soon.

i recently watched the mk movie...
i loved it first when i was like ten years old and i love it even more now!

all of you, just remember christopher lambert playing raiden!!!!!!
