Aug 27 2009Cameron Crowe Made a Pearl Jam Video?

pearl-jam-fixer.jpg

Yes, Cameron Crowe made a Pearl Jam video.

I'm not really sure his style of character-driven, writing-based filmmaking really translates all that well to the medium. Kind of unimpressive. Not exactly a Michel Gondry. Quite honestly, I think Eddie Vedder holding a boombox over his head playing the song probably would be a better video than this:

Well, regardless of whether this video is good, bad, or simply a series of performance shots with a backdrop of more performance shots, the important thing is that Pearl Jam is still relevant.

(Via Cinematical, who say Crowe has made music videos in the past. Really? Were they more substantial than this?)

pearl jam is the bomb. camaron crowe is also a bomb.

check out the love bags on that hussy in the front row to the right of eddy. i bet she'd pay money to spend some time at night with the long one.

dude... worst keying work EVER!!!... oh... and first... i never ge tto do this...

Amazing director; legendary band; great song; best video I've seen in a while.

I miss them.

comeon Beatty, it's a lame ass video. Boring.. unimaginative.. pop-ish...
*OR- to put it another way* It's slightly above average for the crap people normally put out now-a-days.. There. I know how much you all look forward to my opinion.

As a 15 year old I believed my "Ten" was the most amazing album ever.

I now have 2 important questions:

1) People still make music videos and why?

2) Someone gives a shit about Pearl Jam and why?

Josh,

1) Videos are actually more important than ever. With the Internet bands have the chance to get their material out there and good music can spread by word of mouth, emails, tweets, and Diggs. Bands are no longer forced to suck up to ass hat TV channels like MTV and VH1 in order to get some recognition for actually being good.

2) PJ still have a ton of fans. Their music has a good grove and it reminds people of times past. I mean come on, outside of PJ, how many grunge bands are still out there really selling. Of course it doesn't hurt that they put out some pretty decent stuff. While I don't run out whenever the newest EP or album comes out, I won't change the radio if PJ comes on, unlike 90% of the crap out there.

They sell out every show I've ever been to... including the one I JUST bought tickets for...

Someone gives a shit about Pearl Jam? Josh, I would guess you are 12 NOW and lying about being 15 when TEN came out.

Go listen to your Jonas Brothers or Good Charlotte or whatever you do give a shit about.

Lulz at the PJ fans.

Like shooting highly inebriated fish in a time capsule barrel.

Cameron Crowe is overrated.

Pearl Jam is washed-up.

And most of all, every music video made after 1989 is boring. Say what you want about the '80s, but coming home after school, turning on Martha Quinn on MTV, and wasting the afternoon watching Duran Duran and Billy Idol videos until your dad got home and told you to get your lazy ass outside was freakin' awesome.

[NOTE: Curt Loder was, is and always will be a complete douche nozzle.]

sounds like my sex life.

I dunno. Pearl jam is alright. definately not my favourite band though. and definately better than the jonas shits.

I spent this whole time thinking it was Russell Crowe who made the video -
and then, believing that Eddie Vedder looked particularly pudgy - I thought:

well, maybe Russell Crowe is playing Eddie Vedder in the video, because they sorta look alike.

Anyway, crisis resolved people.

Also: I don't think "when something's ______ I'm gonna put a little _____ on it"
really qualifies as well thought out lyrics.

Welcome to 1993.

Shame on you Cameron!

@War Horse

Music videos are hardly at their height of importance. While people certainly browse for music videos, they frequently only watch part of the video and most videos don't warrant a second viewing, as opposed to the heyday of MTV, when viewers would wait for hours to watch their favorite video in its entirety, being exposed to many other videos while they wait.

Occasionally a single video will see a spike of popularity (such as OK Go's treadmill choreography), but that is the exception rather than the rule.

A great graphic representing the importance of different music media can be found here: http://www.informationisbeautiful.net/2009/the-death-of-the-music-industry/

ridiculous goatee

cameron crowe also made 'single video theory', a Pearl Jam Documentary in 1998. This isn't all that shocking...... he's good friends with the band.

Must See!!

You are high if you did not like this video, or this song.

Tremendous.

In fact, it got me high just watching it.

Tremendous.

Immediately put me in a mood. A great one.

To All of those in Doubt:

Pearl Jam - almost 20 years and still evolving.

How many bands are still around 2 decades later? And can say they have self-produced their own album without the corporate big-whigs?

They sell out stadiums around the world in minutes without ever having had to sell out.

Irrelevant? Sounds like you need to adjust your "relevancy scale!"
