Jul 13 2009Watch Nite Owl I Die!
When director Zack Snyder was editing Watchmen down to a barely-more-manageable 162 minutes, some scenes were necessarily lost. But did you realize one of those scenes involved the slow-motion murder of an elderly man? It's true! And you thought you'd seen every slow-motion murder of an elderly man. (You have, besides this one.)
Thankfully, Warner Bros. has released the clip, depicting the death of the first Nite Owl. Your collection is now complete:
Ah, punching dudes always brings back such fond memories of punching other dudes in sepia.

That exposition at the opening was Transformers-level bad.

COOL

I've complained about the movie leaving out the death of Hollis Mason before. Now I see why it was cut: it was really bloody bad.

Yet another scene that reminds me how close Watchmen came to being incredible. How are his killers dealt with?

Wait, is that like a completely finished scene? Those performances were completely terrible!! The bad guys were about as intimidating and convincing as Bulk & Skull from the original Power Rangers series. I didn't see the actual movie, was the rest of it done on that level?

Apart from Malin Akerman (who was just plain awful), the other performances were quite good, which maybe explains why this scene was left out..

I had totally forgotten about this scene until I reread the graphic novel. In which case, the movie bridged it pretty seamlessly.

This is addressed again by the current Night Owl, but I don't honestly remember if he gets all of these guys back for it. Will need to watch the Directory's Cut again, since the first time I saw it I didn't realize it was different than what I had seen before. Can't wait for the BRD on the 21st.

other then the poor acting from the thug's this was very good I wish they would have done it over with better acting and then left it in.

00:32 thug goes for the double high-five and... gets nuthin. Scene was done in one take?? Those thugs were terrible. Is the book like that, they just happened to know where he lived and decided to go get him?

The movie opened with the slow motion murder of an old man. Guess they felt like it was a little redundant.

It seems kinda weird out of context, but I thought the scene was done pretty well.
20. Christopher - July 16, 2009 6:43 PM
In a way, it was a really nice way for him to go out... remembering his past battles.

If i remember right, it kinda comes out of no where in the novel too. I dont think its ment for anything more than a changing of the times, signifying old passing into new in a very violent way (as tends to be the over arching theme of the entire story). Change happens whether we want it too or not. And it doesn't always occur in the nicest of ways... or some bullshit.

Trailer Addict sucks.
23. Good thing they left it out - July 18, 2009 1:34 AM
that was awful. the thugs were like the worst actors i've ever seen and it was just plain gratuitous.

I thought it was great, both in the novel and in the scene. It's not all Hollywood, where a bad guy does something wrong and the good guy gets him back for it. Yay, happy ending and ice cream for all. In real life random violence happens. Thugs are thugs. They don't feel bad, they don't care who they hurt. They just DO things. But hey, cheer up - if you don't like it, I think Spider-man is in the next aisle.
25. hmm - July 20, 2009 3:08 AM
yeah the thugs were bad, but I thought it was well done overall, I liked the seeing glory days, and the main actor was good. This was his best scene good thing its in the director's cut at least. The old super heroine seems a little contrived though - I didn't like her throughout the film - but of course you're not supposed to really like any of them.
