Jul 30 2009'Serious Man' Trailer: It's a Coen Brothers, So Just Watch It
For their last film, 2008's entertaining if comparatively forgettable Burn After Reading, Joel and Ethan Coen filled the cast with notable talent like John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand, and two-thirds of People Magazine's sexiest members of Ocean's Eleven. Always changing up their style, this time the brothers have cast little known actor Michael Stuhlbarg in the lead, playing a man whose marriage, family, career, and health are all in the midst of the kind of rapid deterioration that so often leads to a Falling Down scenario.
Judging by the just-released trailer, it doesn't appear our hero ends up shooting anyone up, but, just as good, he does get his head repeatedly slammed into a chalkboard, providing a disarming back-beat for one of the best edited previews of the year. And I should know about best edited previews of years: I do almost nothing but watch movie trailers all day--a lifestyle choice that has rendered me nearly soulless.
Also stars: Richard Kind as the obnoxious brother character. He's getting typecast from Curb Your Enthusiasm.

I've liked all the Coen Brothers movies so far so I'm looking forward to this one. They're good at what they do.

I suppose there are worse ways to be rendered soulless.

Richard Kind is getting typecast as the only character he is capable of playing. Don't get me wrong, he's great at it, but it's pretty much all he can do.

I thought the point of Falling Down was that he never really kills anybody, just mayhem surrounds him. The only guy you could say he killed was the old guy on the golf course and it can be argued that was only indirectly, and the Nazi guy trying to rape him was self-defense. I know this is off-topic, just sayin'.

see?! now that is how a preview should be edited!
The guys head getting beaten into a wall turns into the soundtrack-
Damn, it's hilarious and disturbing at the same time! *joy*

@rob: It hurts me to say this, but I agree.

What the hell was up with the roll at the end of trailer. "From the creators of"
Aren't the Coen brothers big enough to just write "from the Coen brothers."
Anyway, I just felt like the crawl of their movies was boring. Otherwise, great trailer

Brilliant. Looks like they're returning to an older Coen brothers style with some darker comedy. For 90 seconds I actually felt what that guy was going through.
@Victim. I didn't take that seriously, but I took it more on a spoof of the whole "From the guys who brought you ..."
I mean, that list was missing a bunch of their films, including the brilliant Man Who Wasn't There.

Looks great.
Didn't need the resume' at the end of the trailer though. If you don't know who they are by now, then you don't deserve to watch good films.

Only if the movie is edited in PRECISELY the same manner as the trailer will I go and see it... as a matine'... during the week.
And why the reminder at the end of all the films the Coen's have done? We haven't forgotten - especially not "Burn After Reading"... that one HURT, Coen Bro's... it hurt us DEEP....

Looks good! I love the co bros' roster of weird-looking supporting characters.
