Jul 14 2009'Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief' Teaser: Probably One of Our Best Elevators
When I think about it--remembering Willy Wonka's Great Glass Elevator, the proposed space elevator, Star Trek turbolifts, the classic arcade game Elevator Action's elevators, Doogie Howser's freight elevator in the later seasons when he lived in that sweet loft--I've seen some pretty great elevators in my time. It's going to take a lot for an elevator to impress this elevator-jaded eye. It would have to be something really amazing. Something like, I don't know, an elevator that shoots THROUGH the fucking Empire State Building to FUCKING OLYMPUS! (Olympus floor designated by omega, obviously):
I mean, the teaser still did nothing to particularly interest me in the film as a whole, but man, that's one hell of an elevator.

cool effects, but after watching the trailer I still haven't the faintest clue what the movie is about.

You think this elevator rocks, you should try out the one where I work. It plays the sweetest music and never fails to smell like foot and ass.

Chris Columbus is obviously trying to corner the market in kids with British sounding names in incongruous, fantastical settings... Coming soon:
Nigel Smith and the Aliens of Valhalla!
Simon Barnes and the Mechanical Men of Atlantis!
Hugh Plumley-Phipps and the Frankenstein of Hades!

Oh, Christ! A Chris Columbus film.

The movie is basically Harry Potter meets Greek mythology. Young adolescent boy comes to realize that their is a magical Greek world that exists that regular mortals can't see, but he can because he's half-god.
It's based on a series of books, and with Columbus directing it should be nice and harmless.

For the first 30 seconds, I was like, damn, this looks good. The focus on setting over character is an unusual and bold statement in this currently star-obsessed industry, and the recurring image of floors creates a subtle visual pun that foreshadows the central importance of the elevator. Even the reflection of lit windows in the wet sidewalk mirrors the grid of lit buttons within the elevator. This seemed to be a film with a sense of the importance of visuals in storytelling, and an intriguingly artsy style for a kids' fantasy.
But then I saw that the scrawny 12 year old hero from the book had been switched for a 17 year old prettyboy with perfectly done-up hair.
C'mon, Chris Columbus. You had the decency to cast a relatively unknown 11 year old shrimp with dumb hair for Harry Potter. Are underwear models who worship conditioner the only acceptable protagonists in a post-Twilight world?

Hell yes! I'm a big fan of the books. Can't wait to see how the movie is!

Damn it! when i first saw this trailer when i saqw harry potter yesterday i coulda sworn it was for Thor when the Omega symbal lit up, i was hoping to god it would be thor. but then i realised the kid didn't have a cane. and he was a kid. and Omega is a Greek letter, not a norse rune. DAMMIT!

The books are great, but this trailer isn't brilliant. It doesn't really say much about the film. And the guy playing percy is way too old.
However, if they keep the good humour and sarcasm of the book, it should be cool. and this is only a teaser trailer, after all.

I'm thinking something along the lines of Prometheus- but if he's taking an elevator in the empire state building to olympus clearly man already has fire.

I've read the book. This movie is gonna be good if they stick even remotely to it. it's about demigods. sort of a younger croud for the book, but they movie might be able to attract older people, too.

couldn't agree with you more #13, the movie looks great, but i don't think I'll like the kid... just look at his over exaggerated expression when he sees 'heaven' ( to me it looks like a better design for Hell, but then again that's just me...)
I loved the books, i just hope they don't make this TOO much like Harry Potter...
