Jul 9 2009New 'Funny People' Trailer: It's Funny
My computer's MMX processor isn't powerful enough to properly watch it, but hey, there's a new, red-band (cussin'!) trailer for Funny People! From what I could tell through the stuttered audio and slideshow-esque video that I was able to see, this film still looks funny (but not too funny, you know?) and genuine, so try to look past your seemingly-arbitrary resentment of Judd Apatow & Friends and let's all agree this looks pretty good:
Wow. A character says something funny and the other characters react as if something funny was said. That alone earns this a pass. I want to shake this movie's hand.

MMX... that was funny shit. thought for me it was the really small birthdate entry box that almost stopped me from viewing the video.... But it's allright. Told em I was born in 1900 and now I can enjoy the funny cursing video just like the adults.

I only chuckled once. I gave a shot, but I didn't think it was funny at all.

I was already gonna see this, but then they went and put Wilco in the trailer. Now I just may see it twice.
Also, fuck the Apatow backlash. I love these guys.

Ok, I have to admit that was humorous.

That video player is awful and useless.

I can halfway understand the Apatow backlash, only in that it gets annoying to see the same people playing fairly similar characters over and over again, but damnit these are the only people who are doing anything that's at all funny, even if it isn't always laugh out loud funny.
I suspect most people who bash Apatow are the people who made Paul Blart: Mall Cop so popular.

bonus points for using wilco

I love seeing these guys churn out movies -- even if I don't always like the movies, I still think it's cool that a bunch of friends are just having fun, making silly movies with each other. I really love what Apatow writes and directs though. Good comedy with substance.

I want to see this movie just because they use a Dr. Dog song in the trailer.

This is going to be all kinds of awful and i really don't get why it's getting a pass on this site for some strange odd reason.

"I suspect most people who bash Apatow are the people who made Paul Blart: Mall Cop so popular."
No my friend, the same people who made Paul Blart so popular are the same people that will go and watch any crap Apatow and Co. churn out.

@bob
No, because the people who made Paul Blart are pieces of shit who think comedy is Hotel for Dogs.
Honestly, I think Apatow movies are fucking awesome. It's good to know there's a comedy writer who can consistently write hilarious scripts and direct them just as well.

My hatred of Judd Apatow is not at all arbitrary. He fucked me in the butt, while Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, James Franco, and Paul Rudd stood around keeping up a hilarious-but-natural-sounding commentary. And then the bastards didn't even pay me!

I have seen some trailers of this movie and its really funny. It is a full on comedy movie. Adam Sandler is simply amazing. Jason Schwartzman, the music composer of the film, dons the role of a television celebrity on a sham show ‘Yo Teach’.

I'll wait for Netflix.
WEAK.

So far the trailers, which are great, seem to emphasize the comedic aspects, but I am more interested in how well the drama is fleshed out - Apatow has always had a little underlying seriousness to his work, but never as much as this movie seems to have...wish they would show more in the trailers. I guess they want to make sure their bread and butter fratboy crowd see the movie. We’ll see.
I did think it was cool that, in typical Apatow fashion, the TV trailer features a great song – “Ain’t That Strange” by Rhett Miller – wouldn’t be surprised at all if this ended up pulling a “Paper Planes” and getting huge from this movie alone.
