Jul 10 2009First Look at Titular Fantastic Fox of 'Fantastic Mr. Fox'
This is Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox? I don't really know what I was expecting--maybe something more like the book illustrations?--but this seems somehow off. Not that it's bad; just unexpected. It's sort of like seeing someone after they get breast implants. Looks good, but it will take some getting used to. And I think I need to see them in motion.
Full shot at JoBlo.

I saw an advanced screening of the film in NY. It's really good. The style of animation is real old school. Feels like something I would have watched in preschool.

If it's too slick and produced we scoff. If it's organic and not slickly digital enough we scoff.

They look like they should be singing me happy birthday while I'm served generic pizza.

these are the foxes I see in my nightmares.
that is, until my dreams become lucid and I drop a truck on them.

I really want to see this because I love Wes Anderson, but it looks very borderline furry. I guess I'll have to give it a shot.

Actually, we only scoff at either if it's poorly done so that it looks jarring and unnatural. As in this case. To use the breast implant analogy, this is the equivalent of someone taping the silicone to a woman's chest and then stabbing her a couple times.
