Jul 31 2009Disney's 'Rapunzel' Looks Like... Concept of Rapunzel
Disney Animation has released some concept art for their forthcoming animated project, Rapunzel. Seems like they're going for sort of a "beautiful princess with long hair that may be used to scale castles" thing. Interesting.

The concepts are really beautiful for a Disney project, though I expect this to look like total unimaginative crap when it's done..

Prince Douche + princess anorexia + hacked up plot from a trivial fairy tale = a new Disney Classic++!!

Concept art is always beautiful. Many times it is more beautiful than the final.

#2 and #4: That's so sad. The style of the art in that pic is really cool. If they went with that for the whole film it would be amazing.

Her arms are like really, really skinny.

i wonder what product she uses on her hair. It seems to make it really strong.

It looks like every other Disney Princess movie. It'd be cool if they threw a curveball for once and let Rapunzel scale down the tower on her own accord.
Why's she growing all that hair unless she has an escape plot up her sleeve?

Oh yeah, the guy scale the castle to save the princess.
Right, now both are stuck up there.
Way to go Romeo...

why doesnt she just tie her hair to the balcony, scale down it, then cut it when she gets to the bottom and make an escape?

My cynicism somehow makes me think that Rapunzel's hair is going to be Britney style extensions, with a 'hilarious' falling scene complete with the prince going through several attempts.

It looks fine enough, Disney animated movies are only as good as their story. The cleverness of Aladdin and the wonderful music of Beauty and the Beast are what made those films great (though sure, the aesthetics didn't hurt). If this is another Brother Bear or something along those lines, no amount of cliche princess stereotypes will save it.

i can see the prince get up there, humps the princess, then scales back down. and leaves her behind. you gotta do what you gotta do to get laid. thats the moral of the story.

The style of artwork here looks a bit on the unfinished side. Sure, it looks different and interesting, but I would much rather have seen Glen Keane's original Rococo-era stuff. Oh well, at least the film is going to be released for sure.... after 10 years of waiting.

sure, it looks pretty, but in the original pitch they said they were going for a visual style like The Swing, by Jean-Honore Fragonard http://www.wga.hu/frames-e.html?/html/f/fragonar/1/07swing.html Which would really stand out from the current crop of animation.
This looks like conventional, if pretty, Disney stuff. Except for the hair, it could be concept art for Enchanted.
