Jun 9 2009Zack Morris Returns to Television
Last night on The Late in the Night Jimmy Fallon Hour, Fallon and his staff somehow convinced Mark-Paul Gosselaar that a good way to promote his show, Raising the Bar, would be to do the entire interview in-character as Zack Morris. I worry by the 8-minute mark of scripted banter, when "Zack" is picking up the guitar to perform Zack Attack's hit single, the sketch might cross the line from fun and nostalgic to uncomfortable and dehumanizing :
(from the Late Night blog)
Now when will we get a reprisal of Deputy Jack Hannah from the Sci-Fi original movie Atomic Twister?

That could have been funny, but it wasn't. That's just it; It wasn't funny. Just awkward. Don't let nostalgia trick you into thinking this is entertaining.

Watching this last night confused the hell out of me. Made me feel kind of bad for him. That... he really wont ever live that character down. No matter how many crappy court shows he does on TNT. Well... none of them will live it down. But at least Tiffany Thiessen has atleast more than one character she cant live down. Both hot.

I just want to punch jimmy fallon in the face soooooooooooo bad. Do you know how this douche got his own show? Devil + Douche Soul = comedy disaster.

zack morris is a thousand times more talented at playing that guitar than fallon is to comedy.

That was HI-larious! Zach was so hot in "Dead Man On Campus" ... mmm.
Fallon, though, he's either got the coke shakes or he's the most nervous man alive.

Mark-Paul finally realized his post-"SBTB" career was over. Good for him! Glad to see he's moving on!

Not to worry, I thought it became uncomfortable and dehumanizing immediately. What kills me is I saw some other blog interview where MPG claims Zak is such a complex character and how much he has to remember to bring him to life. LOL!!!!!

He hasn't much changed yet!? Good luck to him!

That made me smile and even laugh softly a couple times. Which I'm pretty sure is the closest I'll ever get to laughing out loud watching Late Night these days.

Watching someone spew on their own soul to the rhythm of their own script is quite disconcerting,
Milton we have discovered a new ring, it's here.

Poor guy. I mean, I loved Saved By The Bell, it's my favorite show ever, but he can't keep being dragged back to that. He's more than Zack Morris.

i enjoyed the first few minutes of this, and then thought that they would at least cut to commercial and bring him back as mark, but man, they really stretched that entire segment out

I think uncomfortable + dehumanizing = funny. Or am I the only one??
