Jun 8 2009'Up' Maintains Dominance in Face of Drunks, Dinosaurs
The top movies in the United States last weekend were:
1. Up - $44.2 million, a startlingly large number considering that what appears to be the DVD is coming out soon enough.
2. The Hangover - $43.3 million. Sounds like this is one Hangover you can look forward to! (I'm trying to get quoted in the newspaper ads.) In the case of this Hangover, laughter is the best medicine!
3. Land of the Lost - $19.5 million. This does not bode well for Jack Black is H.R. Pufnstuf.
4. Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian - $14.7 million. Do the Tenement Museum next!
5. Star Trek - $8.4 million. I miss the days when this kind of success would warrant a Kirk & Friends Saturday morning cartoon spin-off.

UPDATE: It turns out The Hangover probably made more?

The Hangover was quite possibly one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. I knew it looked good. I heard all of the reviews saying that it didn't disappoint. None of that prepared me for what I saw.
I've been in some packed theaters. Never, though, have I had to sit in the very front row for an R-rated comedy at 11:00 on a Friday night.

Land of the Lost in third place? Who would have thought?

Agree w/ #2 (guffaw). The movie starts out strong with big laughs until about 3/4 of the way through when it starts to get a little slow. The ending, however, more than makes up for it -- I thought to myself,"how the hell can they make it funny again," and lo and behold they did. The flick ends with huge laughs which left my friends and I giggling for hours even after we left the theater.

Europe is always pretty late with releasing from new movies. This cost them a lot of money.

The Hangover was the winner...the theater was very full when I saw it, suprisingly so for a matinee.
The end credits are the best.
It's fun and funny. Not aiming too high, or too low. They were able to keep the mystery going, which surprised me.
Everyone was in stitches when Tyson says "NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCEE!"

Except this report is wrong. Hangover actually was #1.
