Jun 8 2009'Spider-Man' Keeps Dunst, Dodges Vampire Trend
Continuity sticklers can breathe a sigh of relief: in an interview with producer Todd Black, the New York Post has confirmed that Kirsten Dunst will continue to bring the Mary Jane character absolutely nothing more than the lines written in the script, with the actress returning to give at least one more hollow, angry/affectionate-alternating performance in Spider-Man 4.
Black also shot down rumors that Spider-Man 4 would take a cue from Twilight and feature Morbius the fluffy-haired vampire as the villain, explaining:
We're just coming up with who the villain's going to be now. We'll be shooting in New York again. Trust me, people will appreciate who we pick, because it'll be a big part of New York.
The Post speculates the villain being referred to is probably either Kraven or, more likely, Kingpin, but I have another theory...
Come on. Spider-Man villain that's a big part of New York? It's got to be Statue of Liberty Venom, Spider-Man's physically largest and most historically-relevant nemesis. Unless that's too obvious, in which case it could be Empire State Carnage.

scorpion... with the symbiote who will then turn to carnage
course in each spider man we get an extra number of villains so for 4 we would get 4 villains
black cat may verywell show
id guess kraven, rhino, vulture, scorpion paving way for
...spiderman 5: maximum carnage
then spiderman 6... the sinister 6
and spiderman 7... secret wars
spiderman 8... clone saga
spiderman 9...

Carnage should never be in a Spiderman film.
6. che-che - June 8, 2009 2:21 PM
carnage should always be in the spiderman movies, in fact he should be in it more than spider man.
7. Pat - June 8, 2009 2:25 PM
Whew, that was a close call with the whole vampire thing. Next thing you know, we'll be getting a Spideman-Twilight mash-up.

All I have to say is:
BLACK CAT = SCARLETT JOHANSON
...pleeeeease?
11. John - June 8, 2009 3:35 PM
Scarlet Johanson already an Iron Man villain. You can't have one person being multiple Marvel universe characters unless their clones or some shit. It would mess continuity for the Avengers.

...except bruce campbell who is a different guy in every spiderman movie
...and stan lee
but they are gods and thus unfallible and can get away with such shennanigans

What about the Lizard? Or do we just have to keep seeing cameos of Dr. Connors and pretending we don't know where his story is going? Sewers are a "big part of New York." Of course, they are a big part of everywhere, I suppose.
Kingpin seems likely and I'd like to see Kraven thrown in, to boot.
14. che-che - June 8, 2009 4:18 PM

16. tommo - June 8, 2009 5:07 PM
Best villain would be the 2004 Red Sox improbably kicking New York's ass all over the place
17. bobbysixkilla - June 8, 2009 6:09 PM
but kingpin's already been in daredevil! you can't just redo a character that's in such a classic marvel movie already

@15
SKATEBOARDING MUMMY FTW!!!
19. Crappola - June 8, 2009 7:25 PM
Kingpin?! Didn't Daredevil (aka Ben Affleck) take care of 'im?
Well at least you theory is feasible. I'm still holding out for Spiderman 4: Spiderman vs. The Real Housewives of New York.

@ 17
If Daredevil was a classic, then so are "Home Alone 4", "The Legend of Bagger Vance", and "Planes, Trains and Automobiles 2: Dawn of the Segway"

28. Johnny Lava - June 13, 2009 10:51 AM
@17
what are you talk'n bout they never made a Daredevil movie. I SAID THERE WAS NO DARE DEVIL MOVIE ....just drop it.
29. Josh E - June 15, 2009 3:01 PM
Lizard is already built up, just let him have it finally. Carnage would be ok, but you would have to believably bring back Venom for that as well, which can be done considering the small sample Dr. Conner has at school. Green Goblin's penthouse should be fresh on the market. Maybe some unsuspecting new tenant could find the stash becoming Hobgoblin!

The previous poster that mentioned HOBGOBLIN had it right. What an awesome idea, IF the writers/Marvel doesn't ruin it like they did in the comics back in the 1980's. When Hobgoblin came out in 1983, only Roger Stern (Hobgoblin's creator) knew his secret ID. Hobby's ID was a VERY big deal, and thousands of readers wrote to Marvel with their guesses as to who was behind the mask. Hunches, debating the clues, and detective work among fans was going on in record numbers. There was a big stir. Most Spidey fans cared a great deal about this storyline. But Marvel played it out way too long, had too many false revelations, and after Roger Stern left the title there were too many horribly written and horribly drawn Hobgoblin stories. A potentially explosive storyline was desecrated.
Even when Roger Stern came out with the "Hobgoblin Lives" mini series in the 1990's to set the record straight because "Ned Leeds couldn't be the Hobgoblin because he was killed easily", Stern still went ahead and had Spider-man defeat the original Hobgoblin with just a few punches in a total squash match. What a letdown.
ANYWAY, if the writers of the Spider-man 4 movie capture the essence of Hobgoblin's original mystique before Marvel ruined it, they may be on to something. Think about it. In the movies, the original Green Goblin (Norman Osborn) is dead, Harry Osborn died in movie 3 at the hands of Venom, and there have been some shots of Norman Osborn's Green Goblin storage area complete with spare costumes, pumpkin bombs, etc. This is the perfect setup for someone to come along (as in the actual comic books) and take on the role of the Hobgoblin. BUT DEAR GOD PLEASE, DON'T LET THEM SCREW UP HIS COSTUME LIKE THEY DID TO GREEN GOBLIN!
Ok, I'm done. I need a cigarette!
