Jun 17 2009'Red Dawn' Gets a Friday Night Lighter and a Wackness
In case you missed it, Red Dawn, the 1984 film that helped us to realize that Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, and Jennifer Grey are our only true defense against the Communist hordes, is being remade. I'm sorry, but you just need to hurry up and accept that, because now there's also some casting news you need to swallow:
Josh Peck and Adrianne Palicki have been cast in MGM/UA's remake of "Red Dawn," set to begin filming in September. They join the already cast Chris Hemsworth in the story of a group of teenagers who form an impromptu insurgency when their town is invaded by Chinese and Russian soldiers.Peck will play Matt Eckert -- the role originated by Charlie Sheen -- the hotheaded younger brother of Hemsworth's Jed Eckert and star quarterback of their Spokane high school football team. Palicki will play Toni, the role first inhabited by Jennifer Grey. She's a tough fighter the brothers encounter who develops romantic feelings for Jed, a Marine home on leave and the group's unofficial leader.
Adrianne Palicki as Jennifer Grey and Josh Peck as Charlie Sheen? I guess I can believe that. By which I mean I can see Palicki ruining her career with plastic surgery and Peck becoming two-fifths of an all-male household and the butt of prostitution monologue jokes.
(Thanks, Jake.)

Are they just going to pretend that the Cold War never ended?

i woulda never thought, but the kid on the right was actually really good in the wackness. maybe just cuz i remember the early nineties and it struck the right chord in me, but i wasn't expecting that from some fat kid on a Disney show.

Russian and Chinese invasion? Who the flip is scared of that? Red Dawn worked because we were all scared shitless that the commies were going to kill us. Who, besides economists, are worried about China? And nobody in America is afraid of Russia whatsoever.
Fuck this movie. Tyra deserves better than this.

Jesus Chris on a tricycle, there goes one more childhood memory raped and pillaged by Hollywood for the sake of money.
I'll now add Red Dawn to the list that includes Dragon Ball, Streetfighter, G.I.Joe...
...I think when DiCaprio's Akira comes out I'll just eat a bullet.

I've been filming a Red Dawn based movie for the past year. I like my premise better, 20 years after the Soviet invasion, more of an alternate history. http://www.thelocal504.com, in case you want to learn more.

so we are being invaded by a Communist government that is slowly becoming socialist, and a democracy that has been substantially weakened over the last 15 years for what reason…Because they hate bright-eyed American teens? Do they already have a deal to run this non-stop on Fox News? because otherwise i fail to see the market.

Why couldn't they just make it terrorists? With a bomb?

Wait, wait, wait...The Russians are capitalists now, and while the Chinese *are* communists, they're entirely dependent upon us now economically, and even before they were, they were more likely to side with us than the Ruskies (As the original Red Dawn pointed out, they were our only credible allies).
