Jun 10 2009'Partly Cloudy': All Life is Created in the Hands of the Cloud-Gods

partly-cloudy.jpg

Don't tell your Pixar attorney dad, but Partly Cloudy, the short film that precedes showings of Up, has found its way online. Show it to your kids to perpetuate the myth that storks deliver babies; confuse them further with the notion that thunderstorms are created when omnipotent cloud-gods have friend break-ups with their co-workers!

This should unteach some science:

Honestly, I'm surprised how much I don't like this. Can't we warm hearts with better ideas?

first!!

They stole the form of that cloud from Jim Henson's Gorgs, from Fraggle Rock:

Is nothing sacred anymore?

Yeah, I thought this was probably one of Pixar's worst shorts(if not the worst). Up was worth it, though. I'm glad I paid to see this and got a feature-length bonus movie out of the deal.

i saw up in "3D" and they didnt show the short, i am glad i didnt see it. cause it would have ruined the up movie for me. cause i didnt really care for the feature film. so it would have giving me a reason to not like it.

I also thought this was a particularly bad one. After the *hilarious* magic hat bit before WALL-E, this seems extra super lame. The g/f liked it; not sure what that tells me about her....

I don't see what's not to like, really. It's definitely something Pixar would do and I thought it was very well done.

That was great. I don't agree with the tone of comments here. It was cute and had a nice little story to tell. What the hell?

I wish I didn't like that, but there were cute baby animals and I like cute baby animals.

its almost like it was a cartoon meant for children... hmmm

What is wrong with you people? This short was hillarious. It was right on par with their previous ones.

@9 - Yup...

I thought it was super duper cute!

Our world has many examples of things made for children that aren't dumb. This short was not an example of that.

You guys should see it in theaters.....leaves a better lasting effect.

I saw it in theaters. In 3D, at that. It's not that I didn't like it. It's just that it was just a little bland/average. Pixar specializes in making films and shorts that appeal to just about everyone. This one just seemed to miss that mark by a tiny bit.

I think I might be dyslexic. I read that title as "Party Clouds".

Good short, but I particularly liked last year's "Presto."

I kept expecting that alcoholic stork to show up.

"Congrat *hic* Congrat *hic* Congrat *hic* Congratulations! You're a mother!!"

I have to admit that short did nothing for me. Saw it at the cinema and it set a tone for what I thought was going to be a mediocre movie at best.

I was pleasantly surprised with Up. Took a good 30 minutes but that movie affected me. I'll even put it out there it brought a few tears..

that was way too freaking cute, the cloud dude was cute, the bird was cute, even the eel was cute... what the hell was wrong with that?

IMO this is one of Pixar's BEST shorts. It's so sweet and to the point.

Lol this is a new fairytale parents can tell their kids.

For the first few who commented negatively about a CHILD's short, you propbably don't have children. This is a light-hearted and sweet short that leaves children thinking like children.

sweetest short yet from pixar. It's adorable, hysterical, and innocent. Well done, pixar!

Aww I loved that :) So cute!

This short was the perfect accompaniment for Up, as they both sucked. This short was particularly lame and by far their weakest. Up's tear-jerker first third was unnecessary, and the 100+ year old villain was an awful storyline. Seriously, Carl watched him as a little kid, and now as a 75-80-year old he meets him in person? I know it's a cartoon but they tried to make it 'realistic' in so many other areas. Fail.

I agree with those who liked this one... it's fun and waaay too cute!

but @ 4... I can't even begin to understand what you mean. I think you need to learn how to convey thoughts through words... it can be helpful

I'm going to try to figure out what you mean: so, seeing this short before 'Up' would have ruined it ('Up') because you didn't care for the feature film (which would also be 'Up')? I'm not even going to bother with that last sentence.

I don't understand how the short would have ruined a movie you didn't like in the first place... but maybe that's just me!

Yeah, Joe. Amidst the house held aloft by balloons, navigated by shower curtains and the boy catching a zeppelin using helium and a leaf blower, it was definitely the villain's age that destroyed the illusion of reality. Grow up.

It would have been better had it included a pygmy jerboa.

Have to agree with Azalea.
But Up was dope.

Oh no not a little kid short film, those guys at pixar are turning soft on us

carl as boy: 8
villain when carl is a boy: 28

carl as an adult: 60
villain when carl is an adult: 80

assuming those ages are approximate, of course, i dont see where there is a problem.

@31/James: Actually Carl is 78 for the main portion of the movie. That would make the villain 98. You're probably right in saying Carl was 8 at the beginning, but then that would make the villain 20 years older than Carl at any point in the movie, which is too old for 78+20.

I saw "Up" with my 4-year-old nephew and the thought this was funny and "awww"ed at every puppy and kitten. It definitely appeals to kids! I thought it was hysterical and precious. The stork's expressions are priceless!

Well watching it here isn't the same effect as in the theatre but everyone I asked about it loved the short, as did I

its not that nothing is sacred anymore, its that no one has originality up their sleeves anymore. sad.

The clouds were just so f-ing cute.

up is amazing, buti hav't watch this one yet
but i'd definitely love the clouds i think
