Mickey Mouse, Pooh Projects Moving Forward Thanks to Key Research

In falsetto-voiced cartoon character news, Disney is announcing plans to develop new projects involving Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse, the two icons most likely to adorn a denim varsity jacket:

Disney is moving on a new Winnie the Pooh hand-drawn animated theatrical release, and it's also creating two primetime TV specials starring "Handy Manny."

[E]xecs also will discuss plans to pump more enthusiasm into the world's largest licensed character franchise: Mickey Mouse.

That effort, said consumer products chairman Andy Mooney, could include classic footage of an animated Mickey mashed up with contemporary Disney properties, with the resulting creations running on the Disney Channel.

Why the sudden interest in reinvigorating Mickey's image? It turns out children like Mickey Mouse!

"Through extensive research with kids, we found they actually love the original Mickey Mouse property," Mooney said.

Ah, yes, I remember that research. I believe that was part of the same study that determined kids also love Spongebob, candy, running around, and staying up past their bedtime. We learned a lot from that one. It turns out kids really enjoy things that everyone expects kids to obviously enjoy.
