May 4 2009'Wolverine' Made So Much Money
Movie audiences this weekend, as expected, heavily favored movies about guys with claws:
1. X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Neither an early internet leak nor hundreds of awful reviews could stop Hugh Jackman-cuts-through-things from grossing $87 million.
2. Ghosts of Girlfriends Past - $15.3 million. It's like no one even cares about Matthew McConaughey learning valuable lessons by magically revisiting his sexual past.
3. Obsessed - $12.2 million. With so many losing their jobs, Americans needed to be reminded how great it was before the economic crash, when everyone had a great career, a hot temp at work obsessed with them, and Beyonce as a wife.
4. 17 Again - $6.4 million. Ah, to be 17 again. I would waste so much time playing StarCraft, again.
5. Monsters vs. Aliens - $5.8 million. Still?

Wolverine sucked. Fox needs to have the rights to the X-Men franchise pryed from their money-grubbing hands.

It did suck something awful. and I agree with nick. Fox knows how to fuck some stuff up.

Thanx american movie going public!
Thanks for insuring that movie studios need make ZERO effort towards writing/directing/effects/casting by justifying their mediocre-at-best treatment of the source material in the only language the understand... $$$$.
Oh, and the inverting of the male to female skin ratio is a big plus too!
thanx

Marvel took the reins with Iron Man. I wish they could just hang onto and produce all of their own franchises.

@5
How are people supposed to know it sucks unless they see it?

The leaked unfinished video looked better than the finished product... to bad the story was still F'ed up!
and WTF did they do to Prof. X's face?? why did they do that?? gaw!!! but at least it was funny when the cartoon looking claws were moving back and forth on his hand. B^P

I had no way of knowing it'd suck as bad as it did before seeing it. I wanted to wait and watch the final finished product, so I didn't watch the leak. If I could take my money back, I would.
I just don't understand how the special effects can be worse in this than in a nine year old movie. It was pitiful.

@7 Actually, the movie studios gave more than your average opputunities to assess whether or not the movie was worth your hard earned duckets. Including previewing to reviewers (37% on rotton tomatos last i checked), plenty of trailers, and let us not forget the leaked work print which turned out to be a final edit minus some effects.
Course knowing the writer of Swordfish and Hitman was invloved was enough to deterr me.

@11 Depends on how much you liked X3 because it's on par

And i will not fight you

Is Wolverine worth watching? It depends on if you're a fan of the source material. If you are, then don't give yourself an aneurism by watching it. Hell, I mostly dislike Marvel comics and hold a special place of loathing for Wolverine, and I didn't particularly care for it. Liev Schreiber was awesome; he has come to define Sabretooth for me. But that's the polished part of the turd.

How about all of us that saw the leaked workprint and took to the streets like Paul Revere declaring, "The movie sucks; don't see it! The movie sucks; don't see it!"

The movie was awesome and Hugh Jackman portrayal was amazing! If only I can level up my character on World of Warcraft like Wolverine, I'll be the strongest at Azeroth. :)

@ 7 and 10
Yep, Rottentomatoes or Metacritic are both good ways to determine whether a movie is going to suck or not.
Of course you may not always agree with the general consensus. The best thing to do is to find a specific critic you agree with the vast majority of the time, and then see movies based on their reviews. Emmanuel Levy is the critic I tend to follow. I know he plagiarizes like a madman but I typically would give movies around the same grade he gives them. It's saved me a lot of time and money that would have been wasted watching crappy movies.

SOOOOOOOOOOO awful! Every five minutes I'd have to turn to my friends to make sure I hadn't just gone mad. Why bother to cast all those extra mutants, what was the point of them? Like, Ryan Renolds was a brilliant Deadpool, but he was in it for what, a minute? If they weren't too busy cramming random mutants into the story, good people could have been in it and ridiculous savaging of the Wolverine canon may not have been necessary.
Waste of time and money.

Who would have ever known that the orphan Wolverine became zillionaire?
19. Sauron - May 5, 2009 9:35 AM
I bet his retracting claws helped him a lot in business.
