Apr 23 2009Stephen Fry Voicing Chesire Cat, Tony Blair Doing White Rabbit

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland just got posher. Yesterday, Stephen Fry "did a Twitter," as they say, revealing he's lending his voice to the Chesire Cat in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland:

Playing Cheshire Cat. Smug, complacent, cheese-eating grin - moi? Walking off to studio in next ten minutes

And later added:

Michael S [Michael Sheen, aka Tony Blair in every movie that has Tony Blair] is the White Rabbit ...

UK readers surely know Fry from his variety of comedy, acting, and hosting duties, and while Wikipedia claims "Fry has become known to American audiences for his recurring guest role as Dr. Gordon Wyatt on the FOX crime series Bones," I'm not sure American audiences actually watch Bones, so below the cut, I've included a short clip of him speaking. Listening, you can imagine how appropriate he'll sound voicing the famous line, "Alice, it's me: the magical, grinning cat named The Chesire Cat. Welcome to Wonderland."

I prefer to think of him as the narrator of the Harry Potter audiobooks that doesn't do the fun voices. I'm sure his Cheshire Cat will be really great though.

If anyone has seen "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" you'll recognize him as the narrator in that too.

The narrations are some of the best parts of that movie

I assure you, American audiences *do* watch "Bones". And Stephen was great as Dr. Gordon Gordon Wyatt.

Plus, he & Hugh Laurie were a great comedy act several years before either "Bones" or "House".

American audiences most certainly DO watch Bones!

Probably know him better from V for Vendetta

I just got Jeeves and Wooster in the mail from NutFlicks, gunna go watch him in that!

so, I guess there are at least two people who watch Bones then. If you were offended by him saying American audiences don't watch Bones, then so fucking what? (as Stephen Fry might say)

Whatever. He should be recognized as Lord/General Melchett. Hilarious!

What the hell is Bones? Is that the subtitle to the new wolverine movie?

And let's not forget the narration to Little Big Planet! (though this comment/reference may be more apropos in Geekologie!)

Fry > God

watch Fry and Hugh Laurie in the brilliant Jeeves and Wooster. youtube it.

Lovely news, however it -has- been listed on IMDB for over a month.
Ah well, the more Stephen Fry around the better :D

Stephen Fry is amazing, and is huge in the UK. Unfortunately, it is harder for American audiences to get to know him, so I suggest you check out some of his best work. Jeeves and Wooster is pretty great, but A Bit of Fry and Laurie is worth seeing. Also, QI is a quiz show, really funny, and he's the host. You'll see other well known British celebs, and it can be found on YouTube. Blackadder of course is the ultimate, and if you like Oscar Wilde, nothing beats his portrayal in the movie, and his narration of Wilde's short stories.

I love Stephen Fry's work. He made a guest appearance with Hugh Laurie in another Brit Comedy The Young Ones I believed he played Lord Snot. But all the incarnations of Melchett in Black Adder are just hilarious Espec General Melchett mad as a hatter

Wow! I love Fry, but I'm having a really hard time picturing him as a disappearing purple cat. We'll see, I guess.

Stephen Fry is HUGE in the UK. He's pretty much a national hero - I don't think I've ever met anyone who doesn't love him. He's just great in every way!
Check out Fry and Laurie clips on youtube, so weird and great (and that's Hugh Laurie who you lot discovered via House) . Often overlooked for some reason but brilliant nonetheless. He has lots to offer so you should check him out. He even did a tour programme of America which was pretty good - drove around in a black cab, which is his ACTUAL car. Ace.

Little Big Planet Narrator FTW!!

... hes also recently done a BBC series (6 eps) called : Stephen Fry in America to accompany a book he did ... check it out on youtube. Yamericans!
