Apr 21 2009'Paper Heart' Trailer: Fine, You Charmed Me
Saccharine romance gets a sort-of-documentary twist, and I think I like it. Here's the trailer for Paper Heart, a film that follows Charlyne Yi on her quest to learn about love (largely from the Judd Apatow crowd), and her real-but-also-fictionalized romance with Michael Cera. It's kind of a Curb Your Enthusiasm by way of indie dramedy plus real interviews (I think?):

I have this problem with immediately wanting to love films that have Jones Soda in them, Superbad being the exception to that.
5. Jimmy Jim - April 21, 2009 3:24 PM
wow, this looks really bad. really bad. and boy does that chick have a face.

@ 5.
Yes. Charlene Yi. Wow, at least you know Michael Cera isn't shallow eh? ;)

I think the sweetest part is when she used her movie star boyfriend to sell an indie version of The Hills. I'm too old to give a shit about these hoodie wearing fucks.

Charlyne Yi's the type of girl a guy who can't get laid will go out with, only to find that she doesn't want to have sex or even get naked for the first two years of dating. Michael Cera may only have a year or so more of this A-list fame; he should be using this brief time to bang hot chicks instead of hanging around with this woman who's 13 years older and probably still hasn't let him tongue-kiss her.

I'm so conflicted... So far I've loved all of the movies from the "Apatow guys.." but... boy does this look crappy. Maybe I'm just bitter?
10. ugggh. - April 21, 2009 6:40 PM
Wait. What? I searched her name, and Charlyne Yi is 33. 33? Micheal Cera is like 21. Why does this 33 year old woman still act like a little kid? That's really weird to me.
11. Bubba Gump - April 21, 2009 8:55 PM
I like him.

I'm going to go see this just so I can mentally paste my face over Charlene's. (Holy fuck, 33?)
Yeah, I get it. I'm a lame.
But it looks right up my alley with awkward moments and a sprinkling of romantic comedy.
BUT FIRST!
Dragonball is a far more pressing matter. Ohohoho.

Also:
Why does she spell her name with a 'y'.
Her parents are clearly pricks.
14. chuck - April 21, 2009 9:46 PM
@5 & 6, fuck you. There's nothing wrong with her face. She's cute. I'd like to see your face, you miserable pricks.

I really didn't want to like this so I watched it with a cynical eye... but it charmed me anyway. Then I read the comments and realized, actually, I do hate it after all. Thanks everyone.

Am I the only one who thought this was ridiculously charming? Have you guys have no soul?

...Her?
20. Chris - April 22, 2009 1:19 PM
You are all so sad. Bottom line, Michael Cera is greater than you.
21. Patty - April 22, 2009 5:39 PM
I wanted to like it.

@19, nice, i lol'ed
also, saw this movie at Sundance and it was ok at first because I thought it was real. Then I realized it was entirely scripted (except for the interviews), making the movie a real waste of time.
also, Charlene Yi is extremely odd in real life, not just in the movie
23. oijoijoij - April 23, 2009 11:41 AM
What, is she funny or something?
ok i just copied 19
actually i liked it. i liked the trailer. so sue me bitches.
24. Alicia - April 23, 2009 12:12 PM
@22 - So if a movie is scripted it's a waste of time? Do you watch any movies at all? Cuz I hate to break it to you, but... they're scripted.
Clearly you have no concept of a mockumentary.
25. wtf - April 23, 2009 4:59 PM
@19. hilarious.
poor Egg, she didn't know they were supposed to have quotes.
this movie looks dumb. I'm over the awkward dork/hipster romance thing that started with Juno. it needs to end.
26. jessica - April 24, 2009 2:16 PM
@ 25. you would kill to be a hipster....instead youre just a kahweer.
27. Racer X - April 24, 2009 5:07 PM
So he's playing the inadequate teen who plays guitar trying to get the girl AGAIN?
/WEAK SHAIT
28. @ 22 - April 24, 2009 7:04 PM
@ 22 it's a mockumentary. You sound like someone who wants to be a film buff but has no taste and so decides to only like things that are non fiction or "relevent". Pull the log out of your ass.
Was a cute trailer very charming. Weird is entertaining I find.
29. Jimmy Jim - April 25, 2009 6:40 PM
#22, i think its you that needs to remove the object from you're asshole.
What exactly is this a mockumentary of? hmm? Weird people? Movies that framed around real interviews but are essentially scripted? stfu, come back when you have something to say.
30. Me - April 26, 2009 2:43 PM
I saw an advanced screening of this movie and it was absolutely adorable. I cannot wait to see the edited version!
31. jonny - April 28, 2009 6:46 AM
You know what would be a really novel if Micheal Cera would play a tottaly un-awkward guy brimming with confidence. He could be confidence man 1!!
32. Valkyrie - April 30, 2009 3:10 AM
Looks better than a lot of wank that's being cranked out right now.
Some of you really need to learn to self combust.

any who... she is 23, look it up on IMDB.com, its a "movie", all movies are scripted, all documentaries ARE scripted, otherwise no budget, their script was only 5 pages, all of the interviews are REAL, and if you have not watched it then is your loss, most critics (real critics) DO WATCH THE FILM THEY ARE TO CRITIC, how can you review or critic anything without having the facts?, she said he said is not actually being there, eating popcorn and watching this awesome film. grow up and buy a ticket then watch the film THEN critic what you watched.
