Apr 30 2009'Moon' Gets Harder to See
Ut oh, would-be Moon viewers. Io9 is saying Douglas Jones's sleek, promising sci-fi film will only be playing in New York and L.A., leaving the rest of America only a Star Trek to sate their summertime space travel cravings. So if you're not in New York or Los Angeles, and you want to see Sam Rockwell contract the space madness before the DVD comes out, time to start electro-petitioning Sony Pictures Classics. (I don't know how to go about that. Someone should set that up though.)

This is ridiculous. Why would they do that?

Unless they are testing the movie in those cities first before having a wide release, I see no reason not to just release the DVD at the same time.
Are they not doing that to avoid the characteristic of being a "direct to dvd" movie? I
I really want to see the movie, so I guess I'm hoping the DVD comes out quickly.

Damn. I hope some magic happens and I get to see it. I'll be in NYC the weekend *before* it comes out, unfortunately.

I was lucky enough to have gotten tickets to the special preview here in Houston a couple months ago. I hope it does get a wide release after NY and LA. It was a really good movie! Interesting story, great acting, realistic effects. It really reminded me a lot of those 1970's style space movies. Sam Rockwell is one of the best actors around and does a fantastic job.
The director hosted a special preview and Q&A session at the IMAX theater at Space Center Houston. The Q&A session was recorded and will be on the DVD extras. I asked the director the last question, about the budget he had for this film, so I should be on the DVD extras, unless I got edited out. Believe it or not, his budget was only in the 5 million dollar range, which is amazing when you see the film. Most studios can't even make a romantic comedy for less than 25 million.
If you can see it in the theaters, great, but if not, make sure you catch it on DVD!

That's a bummer. I was really looking forward to this movie. Hopefully the Angelika in Houston will show it. I can't believe that I missed the special screening at the Space Center! I've been telling my friends about this movie ever since I saw the trailer, it looks great.

sounds like a ploy to get people to bootleg the bahjeeezus out of this movie. then sony will have us right where they want us....and bam! sony's knocked up full of lawsuit babies. Everyone will have to pay child support till we die.
