Apr 13 2009Hand-Drawny 'Brothers Bloom' Poster
The Brothers Bloom has been on my movies-I'll-put-forth-effort-to-see radar since the trailer debuted last year, and now writer/director Rian Johnson (Brick!) has revitalized my interest for the May release with a new, hand-drawn poster by his cousin. I'd say the stylized, purposefully antiquated take on the floating heads standard is pretty charming, even if Adrien Brody does look like he belongs in the background of a Scorsese film. Well done, Zach Johnson.
And here's a newish trailer:

Since it's a con artist movie, we can obviously assume that it will end by revealing that the con was actually a double-con, but then right before the credits, we'll learn that it was in fact a triple-con, but does Rian Johnson have the chutzpah to give us a quadruple-con?
Or perhaps the bigl twist ending would really be to not give us several ridiculous plot twists. Who'd see THAT coming?
That said, I'll keep my fingers crossed -- I haven't seen a good con artist film since The Grifters.

Saw this at the Denver film fest. Definitely worth it.

@1 nope! I don't think there will be a "Quadruple Conman", but the 4th person involved will look like the 2nd con, but he'll die revealing the 3rd con that killed him a short time later! Get it?

I got excited because I thought that the drawing of Rachel Weisz was Stephanie Leonidas.
Then I thought it was Brittany Murphy and I got sad.

Is it just me or does the illustration of Rachel Weisz look more like a stylized Penelope Cruz? It's not at all bad by any means, just something that seemed a little off.

I've got a vendetta against this movie.
I saw it at TIFF, and it had one of the most enjoyable first half hours I saw in any of the (many, many) films I saw that week. However the film tripped, fell, then threw up all over itself for the entirety of its remainder.
The con, double-con, triple-con, quadruple-con pattern grew tedious quickly, and I kind of felt like it was insulting my intelligence.
I'm curious to see what its wide reception will be. Perhaps other people don't take promising-then-super-disappointing films quite so personally.

@8 Although I saw it coming, I'm still disheartened to hear that it's actually true. It's sad that the days of the intelligent plot twist have been replaced by an endless string of obligatory nonsensical twists. :(
