Home Alone for adults has its star. James Marsden has been cast as the lead in Rod Lurie's remake of the 1971 Dustin Hoffman classic Straw Dogs:

James Marsden will star in Screen Gems' reimagining of the 1971 thriller "Straw Dogs" being written and directed by Rod Lurie.

The new "Straw Dogs" follows Los Angeles screenwriter David Sumner (Marsden), who moves with his wife to her hometown in the deep South. Once there, tensions build in their marriage and old conflicts re-emerge with the locals, leading to a violent confrontation.

The original, co-written and directed by Sam Peckinpah, saw Dustin Hoffman in the role of Sumner, with the story set in rural England.

Both films are based on the book "The Siege at Trencher's Farm" by Gordon Williams.

Alright, that works. Now might I suggest the Blue Collar Comedy Tour crew as the savage locals? Those guys breaking into a home, Bill Engvall violently wielding "your sign" of his "Here's your sign" bit fame, would be so terrifying. And who wouldn't want to see Larry Cable Guy get hot oil thrown across his face and exposed arms? Get THAT done, mofo! Standing ovation time.

at first, i read this article like it was a comedy

Question is, will this remake include the raping of his wife that in turn enjoys? Also, will this be banned in UK, too?

Thanks for pretty much confirming that this film should be titled, "Lets Bash the Red States" with a byline of "Aren't we so much better than those dirty southerners?" Bigot Porn for Bigots.

@3 (Dark Eden) - Right, because the south has done so much to dispel any stereotype through it's brilliant use of racism, illiteracy, violence, and general stupidity (the poorest states vote Republican? THAT worked out well) for the last 50 years.

"Looks like we got ourselves a Reader, boys..."

I hate the people who automatically get up in arms about remakes... but christ, if ever there was an unnecessary remake... I guess it's just a matter of time until The French Connection get's remade with Vin Diesel, The Deer Hunter with Will Smith fresh from Iraq, and Mean Streets starring Mark Wahlberg

I remade The Godfather but I set it in London in the year 2089 and made it an Apocalyptic Nightmare World.

It was awesome but then I deleted it by mistake. Shame, too as it cost millions.

You do realize your post is an oxymoron right? Unlike you, who is just a plain moron.

Can't remake this movie in the south. Most of us still own guns. "Ohhhhh, there's some bad people outside........BANG, BANGx30." N/M, I think they're gone."

@7

Yeah, if you can see well enough through your drunken haze to actually aim.

"Question is, will this remake include the raping of his wife that in turn enjoys?"

You know, when I saw this article, I was going to comment "haha, let me guess, James Marsden's girl will end up with another guy, amirite? Boy, that guy has some rotten luck."

And now, I feel kind of bad.

The South and the East Coast in general is the most lifeless place on the planet
