Mar 27 2009See the Magic in Nicolas Cage: Sorcerer
JustJared has posted the first shots of Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel on the set of The Sorcerer's Apprentice, a live-action take on the poem most famously portrayed in Fantasia.
I think it's obvious enough what they're going for here:

That's all the world needs, another movie where Nicolas Cage tries to talk like Elvis and acts horribly.

so do these guys ever look in the mirror after they are in costume, and realize they look retarded.

What IS wrong with Cage??
He actually was amazing in "Leaving Las Vegas" and "Adaptation" wasn't too bad either,
but he has become the worst fuckin actor of his generation. and makes the worst movies imaginable.
wtf?

The only Nicolas Cage movies I can currently think of that can be classified as "good" are Raising Arizona and Weatherman. He needs to be stopped.

At first glance I also would've said a dirty/homeless Alice Cooper.

eeew he looked like the dude from Kiss in Bangkock Dangerous...
8. Joshua Simone - March 27, 2009 1:54 PM
He wasn't that bad in Face-Off or The Rock.

I actually thought he was awesome in Wild at Heart, but lately the man has become a doleful parody of himself. If your acting range is pretty narrow, you can either become a wild success like Robin Williams, or yet another boring rehash of the exact same character... in a different hat, I guess.

Nicholas Cage movies worth watching:
Raising Arizona
Wild At Heart
Matchstick Men
Lord of War
The Weather Man
And the Rock wasn't bad, but I could only watch once or twice.
All the rest (likely including every movie to be released from now on)...not so much.

All of his movies are worth watching if you want a good laugh. My personal favorite, Werewolf Women of the SS. Rock on Fu Manchu. Rock on.

Why all the hate on Cage? I get it's the "hip" thing to do now. But it's ridiculous in my opinion. Ebert wrote recently that he thinks Cage is a fantastic actor. I tend to agree with him.
Does that mean his movies are all great? Nope. Many are horrible POS. But, Cage takes chances. You can't type cast him. That's a sign of a good actor.
Again, someone explain the hate for Cage?
Also, if someone could explain the hate for National Treasure, I'd like to hear that one too.

i'll tell you why all the hate on Nicolas Cage. EVERY fucking movie he as been in for the last 3 or 4 years, which has been A LOT, he plays the same fucking character. it's nicolas cage we're watching, not say the Ghost Rider. he has all of the same euphamisms, the same "crazy" look that he gives any time something "crazy" is about to happen, and he chooses each role by which one he can play in first. Nicolas Cage takes chances?? what chances?? the only chances he's taking is whether or not the next director will pay him what he thinks he's worth, which goes up just about every other movie i'm sure. now don't get me wrong, i love some of his movies so much that i actually HAVE watched them more than once. Matchstick Men is one of my favorite, along with FACE/OFF and Lord of War. but those movies actually portrayed Cage with a different persona than he usually puts on in his "i'm just doing this because i can" movies. i swear, everytime i go to the movie theater to see a movie i can almost count on seeing a preview for yet ANOTHER Nicolas Cage movie. and what's even funnier about the whole thing is that two weeks before i saw a preview on t.v. for a movie that he is in. and these are all movies that are either brand new or i have forgotten about mainly because when i see the preview i don't pay any attention to it because Cage is in it. he went from being a good actor in my eyes, to still being a good actor but not really choosing his roles right. look at christian bale, or johnny depp, or hell even liam neesam. they choose roles that they think will fit them. and usually they do, minus the resent "Taken" that i think could have used a younger actor. no offense Liam, but you look a little to old for me to believe that if that person was really you tey would have been able to pwn that many people in a 2 day period. back to Nick. i like him, but i have recently stopped wanting to see his movies because he is THE SAME PERSON in every single one of them.

17. elainemarlry - March 27, 2009 8:09 PM
or even maybe there going for a little bit of vampire hunter d? or is that too dated
18. Dave - March 27, 2009 9:32 PM
@13
I agree with what Ebert says about Cage. He says he plays intense and intenser. However, he can go from neurotic to leading man. Many actors can't do that. That's why he has range. You can't peg him as "this" or "that." He will do a small movie like the "the weatherman" and then do "national treasure."
Wicker Man and Ghost Rider are BY far his worst movies. However he's made MANY more good ones than bad ones.
Most of your rant against him was basically built on the idea that Cage makes TOO many movies. What kind of criticism is that? That is ridiculous in my opinion.
Oh, you list Christan Bale? yeah, the backlash will happen to him too. I guarantee it. I love his choices in movies, and think he's a great actor, but he plays one note: intense. That's all he does, like Cage. Cage can be funny though, that separates him from Bale in my opinion.
Now the two best "mainstream" actors are johnny depp and Daniel Day-Lewis. However, I would say Cage is right there with them. That's just my opinion though. Cage has done many more movies than them, but that doesn't mean he's a worse actor.

@12 wtf does "hip" have to do with anything? The guy hasn't released a decent movie in fuckin years so it goes without saying that people are gonna hate on him.
22. Dave - March 29, 2009 1:21 AM
@21
Wicker Man/Ghost Rider/Next = awful movies
Knowing/National Treasure movies/Lord of War/Weatherman/Matchstick Men/etc... = not awful movies. Good movies.
See, the difference between you and me is I like to back up my statements.
So, again. Why the hate?
23. BadGurl - March 29, 2009 9:02 AM
