Mar 4 2009'Public Enemies' Trailer Continuing Christian Bale's Streak of Movies I Will See

public-enemies-trailer-depp.jpg

As is the case with most recent movies involving a brooding Christian Bale and regular gunfire, Public Enemies looks good. In fact, with Michael Mann at the helm and Johnny Depp as Dillinger (reminding us he can play non-goofy, non-pirate roles), it looks really good. But none of these powerful elements are highlight of this new trailer for the film. The best part is Billy Crudup's spot-on old fashioney voice:

Classic cadence. It's like he's narrating a newsreel. I want Billy Crudup to do my voicemail as this character, alerting callers that I'm busy picking up dames at the speakeasy.

May i be the FIRST to say that this movie looks awesome?

May I be the SECOND to conocer with you sir

I feel like I just watched the entire movie.

i came

Looks awesome! Totally professional, not amateur in any way.

If thats the entire movie, I will still pay to see it in the theater.

I just hope people dont get pissed when the first have of the movie is all dialog and then come some action. People now a days dont understand what a god movie is. It not about great action and cool special effects its about compelling stories.

uh oh.. I just screamed like a little girl
*faints*

Holy s**t that's gonna be so awsome

Michael Mann shot this movie in the same style as Miami Vice. I can't say that I particularly enjoyed it. It reminds me of a home movie.

@3-dont be silly, its a michael mann flick its going to be atleast 3 hours long. and get dragged in the middle somehow. but it still will be good somehow. cept for that miami vice what the hell was that all about.

@10-think of it more like collateral.

Once again.... The one and only....

JOHNNY DEPP

Looks great.

@2: Actually, you are the FIRST to concur, while I am the SECOND.

Who is better at picking projects than Christian Bale and Johnny Depp? This movie looks awesome.

I would watch a movie of the phone book if Michael Mann directed it. I love his style. (Miami was a big bag of FAIL though). Collateral is one of my all-time favorite movies.

Chrisitan Bale + Johnny Depp + Michael Mann + John Dillinger = Awesome.

...was that Ray Liotta?

What does this movie possibly have to offer that is going to be cutting edge, new? Looks like the same old Hollywood formula to me. Money corrupts.

@16
Christian Bale in an old-timey hat.

#16 What?
#14 Agreed

Nice. I love a brooding Christian Bale. Johnny Depp and Christian Bale are very talented actors. The best part is, you don't see Depp and Bale...you see Dillinger and Purvis. It's not like you are watching Keanu Reaves playing Keanu Reaves playing Keanu Reaves. I'm really looking forward to this movie. Great trailer.

I'll add to that....how about Depp and Bale with a tommygun?

#4 Agreed
Johnny Depp looks like a walking pile of hot sex. Good grief.

I'm all about this. Definitely wanna go see this when it drops.

I agree about Crudup's voice.

hey, did someone slip me a sleeping pill?

I HATE KEANU REEVES. HE'S HORRIFYING.

thankfully neither him nor Winona Ryder are in it.

just sayin'.

am i the only one who hates the goddamn techno music at the beginning and the overall music selections in this trailer??? wtf?

totally inappropriate music. sounded like kill bill. film looks good though.

Omg, Batman vs.Sweeney Todd Gonna be siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick!!!!!! Oh,and might I add,Christian looks soooooooo dapper and sexy in 30's garb. Love the hats,suits,and trenchcoats,and those BIG guns,yummy yummy yummy:P

!!! i am loving that old fashiony voice. Spot on, Mr. Crudup, spot on!

He does look dapper doesn't he? MMMMMM

The BIG, BIG, BIG, BIG....GUNS. LOL!

That looked even better than I thought it would. The musical choice is a little odd, but in more of a quirky way than a bad way.

the choice of the hand-held digital might be interesting. It generally pulls me out of a movie experience because it looks a bit too 'real' and I keep imagining the crew standing around, and film kinda makes it feel like you actually viewing an event, but eh, no one has done a period film in this format yet, so who knows, it could work sweet.

I second all the opinions of Micheal Mann's direction. Even Miami Vice was
different then I expected and a good movie in it's own way. But nothing can top Heat with Pacino and Deniro. But this movie with Depp and Bale might be close.

The modern synthetic-sounding music in the trailer is distractingly bad. Swap that out for the awesome score from the Untouchables, and it's a winner.

@33

Pineapple Express had that one song in the trailer, and a complete score instead for the movie, maybe it'll be one of those type-a-deals.

I've missed serious/mustachioed Johnny Depp, I'm excited.

Also, the MPAA lists the reasoning for this being R as "Gangster violence and some language". Because Gangster violence is EXTRA bad.

Did anyone realize how little Bale is featured in this trailer. His snippets are few and far between. The poster also has him limited to an obvious co-star role.

Compare this to American Gangster where Russell Crowe and Denzel are equally utilized.

@Sam

Well, Depp is supposed to be the star of the show and Bale just in a supporting role. Sounds like to me, they like to use Bale's name for billing purposes. I would have liked to see his mug more in the trailer, but alas....I heard they didn't develop the character of Purvis well in the movie, so that also maybe another reason.

@Terry

Thanks for your input.

Movie looks really good but I have issues with Mr. Depp's southern accent when Dillinger was from Indiana. Sorry Hoosiers do not sound like that. Also he was a very charming guy from stories I heard from people that had meet him in Indiana and looks like that are having that be a part of his character in this movie.

Johnny looks quite dapper =)
