Mar 24 2009Modern Warfare Just Got Both Cuter and More Horrific

cat-shit-one-trailer.jpg

I've seen most modern war films that have been considered graphic or controversial in their portrayals of violence. I've played one of those Call of Duty realistic combat simulation video games. But I have never found war as disturbing and morally questionable as I did watching this trailer for the anime Cat Shit One (perhaps you read the manga under its American title, Apocalypse Meow). It is truly unsettling. You haven't fully understood the horrors of Middle Eastern warfare until you've seen them through the eyes of a rabbit on its hind legs fighting an anthropomorphic camel:

(Thanks to Mike T.)

I thought this would be a gag in some way, but no. This (cat) shit is real. It's just like watching a trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4 but starring those Blockbuster commercial pets from a few years back. Bet you didn't expect to see the oft-parodied freeze-frame-and-sudden-change-to-graphic-background character introductions with GD MILITARY BUNNIES today, did you? And I bet you DID expect to see cats at some point. Nope! Today is ripe with terrible surprises.

Well the only thing war was missing was the cuteness factor...

two words: Watership Down

I think you meant, "rife" with terrible surprises

The best thing about it is the name. Cat Shit One!

But the other stuff is awesome too. The most disturbing bit is not the bunnies, which are awesome, but that something like call of duty is so mainstream that it's affecting movies? I miss shooters that don't tell you what to do next.

That was just weird... shame it didn't have subtitles.

Please let this be getting a release in America.

i approve of this movie!

tagline- "Just in time for Easter!"
and I also approve of this movie

I have nothing to say about this.

The intro was straight out of MGS4. lol

cat shit one? seriously? That's slightly mental.

Nice to see Prince Harry's mate is in there..

@11....you meant METAL? Right?

I haven't watched Anime in half a freaking decade, and now, i'll find myself buying some. Damn you, Japan! Damn you for making me relapse.

do you think it will get jarhead and show some rabbits fucking!

oh and i didnt see any cats in there.

Hey! something I contributed got on this site! sweet.

Man, I don't know if anyone else has read it, but this is based on the Apocalypse Meow graphic novels. Only those were set in Vietnam. Every nation was a different animal, the Vietnamese were all cats, and then of course the Americans were these furry bunnies of death. The Chinese were pandas and Russians were grizzlies. Anyways, I don't know how it will fit in Afghanistan or whatever, but the animation looked beautiful. Interesting.

@17
I hope they didn't have any New Zealanders in that series.
We'd be a stupid ass bird that can't even fly let alone handle a weapon.

Oh, and i'm tempted to check that manga out because, hey - who dosn't like pandas?

Please God, let this be made into an Xbox 360 video game!

@4:

I think it might be a little self indulgent to assume Call of Duty is affecting violence in movies. There were definitely contemporary war movies around before that. And maybe the Japanese have an unhealthy obsession with glorifying violence to a hyper-commercial level?

@17
sounds like Maus!

does this remind anyone of a modern day animal farm?!?

wtf did I just watch?

@17

I totally agree about the kiwi, therefore I say we start a movement to have the national bird representing NZ changed to the Haast Eagle, then we'd all be massive 1.5 metre killing machines ;)

Seriously?

It's a story about the middle east warfare.. and there is someone named Packy?

No one ever read "Maus"? It was a graphic novel about the Holocaust that used mice for Jews, cats for Nazis, dogs for Americans, etc. It won a Pulitzer Prize Special Award in 1992. Very moving and the use of animals helped with a very emotionally heavy story. This seems to be the same thing and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

The original comic was about Vietnam. This is supposed to be about the Iran hostage crisis.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOO wanna watch sumthing like this

this movie is incredibly inherently racist. having the middle-easterners be dogs is the most insulting thing you could do to them, dogs are a filthy animal in a culture obsessed with being (ritually) clean and calling someone a dog is the biggest insult you can dish out.

dont get me wrong, it looks badass and i will be watching it, ill just laugh a little as i do.

EPIC F-ING WIN!

@28

Good thing they're actually camels and not dogs then..... they can sleep easy now.

It's not "Middle Eastern warfare", it's middle *Easter* warfare, what with all the lil bunnies...Where's my Easter egg, dammit, this means war!!!

Needs more singe-ing of animal hair...

Words cant describe how epic this shit is...

"Maus" did it first.

cat shit one on the director who made this film

AWESOMEEEEEEEEE doody!!)

W... T... F...

It DOES look a lot like Metal Gear Solid 4... except that the story seems a little more believable/realistic.

All joking aside though, this is seriously messed up. Especially the title. And everything else. I'm sure plenty of nuts will lap this right up though. It's from JAPAN, after all!

If the next Call of Duty was like this I would never walk away from my XBOX 360!

Effing sweet!

Bad ass bunny rabbits, those. And I'd watch the thing just in the hope that any A-10 pilots would be actual warthogs. Wait, eagles, falcons, tomcats, everything.
