Mar 18 2009'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs' Gets a Trailer, More Grounded Explanation

If you were one of those precocious kids that thought the frivolity of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs could use a scientific explanation for the food precipitation and a relevant moral lesson about man playing God, this will be your CGI dream come true:

I hope at least one of the characters throws up at the sight of so much syrup. For realism's sake.

*gasp* my Birthday wish for 8 years was a giant pool of jello!

sigh, doesn't look anything like the book which was one of my all time favorites as a kid. but nonetheless looks entertaining. the style of art in that book was so interesting.

I hope everyone learns the value of eating right and staying healthy at the end.

Nice volumetric cloud particle systems.

The trailer looks very promising! At least it makes me hungry!

WHY do the women in these movies always look EXACTLY the same? They manage to make the men look slightly different from film to film, but these female characters ALWAYS look just like that, same haircut, same exact eyes...

I don't get it.

Screw this piece of tripe! They just ruined yet another piece of my childhood. Gawd they're gonna redo Goonies next.

Yep, looks awful. I, too, loved this book as a kid, particularly it's unusual and beautiful art style. This seems to have none of the wonder or grandeur that the book had.

is this a comedy?

While I can understand the need to create an explanatory backstory given the relative thinness of the book... god that looks stupid.

How are they going to leave and go to the real world if they are already there? How will they get water? They are all going to die, because they couldn't get the story right like it is in the book.. silly people. Although I may watch it just because I love the book, and if it does good they will make the sequel Pickles to Pittsburgh... but they would have to kill that one too...

the guys who created CLONE HIGH adapted the screenplay & directed this movie, so i'm willing to cut it some slack. and if you haven't seen "clone high", well, check an episode out on youtube. right now.

it's a fact of life that all CGI movies meant to appeal to kids have lousy trailers (yes, even pixar movies - with the exception of wall-e, of course).

i'm not ready to declare this "terrible" just yet... more like "dear god, i hope this isn't terrible because it's made by the two people who previously made one of my favorite things ever."

GREATEST ANIME FILM IN YEARS!!!! I'm so sure!

YOU GOT SERVED

ugh

this was one of my favorite books as a kid, and they completely ruined it with this movie. it looks nothing like the book. that really sucks.

Never heard of the book(s) (not a native english-language dude) but this trailer made me a little sick.

How can it be fun to get hamburgers and junkfood instead of water (because water is part of a natural process and junkfood - ehm...) ? I do not get it - is there any kind of dark humour here ? When you know there are more and more people starving in the whole world (yes - it's rising again after a long period where we all thought that it'll be past story soon), isn't it a bit of insanity there ? Maybe a kind of modern non-sensic humour... Children-focused movies used to be more clever than that but i won't judge this one too fast : after all i did not read the book, and maybe the story goes far beyond this ok trailer. Maybe not too - i tend to be seriously worried for Hollywood these times...

I do not know how they plan to promote this movie in Europe and in France in particular, in all these 'old' countries where (good) food is part of the culture. I'm curious to see that... ;)

"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" : Sony's answer to Pixar's "Ratatouille" ?

I too, would make that face if it rained delicious food stuff from the sky.

Creators of Clone High behind this, eh?
We'll see.

Part of me just died.

Wow this looks like it's gonna be pretty good!

Read the book and saw a rough cut of the movie.

The book is really thin and very little actually happens, so don't treat it like it's the Bible.

The movie itself is good and they found a way of taking a slight concept and making it into an entertaining film (unlike Horton Hears a Who, which was unbearable.)

NO SCHOOL! lol can't wait!

Memories of this book date back to when I was in freaking preschool; where someone had scribbled highlighter over some of my favorite pages. When I heard, nay, SAW a single picture from this movie I kind-of wanted to weep.

They scrapped the detailed, appealing drawings from the book for that generic rubbery human bull they always put in movies today.

Well, there's always a chance of a live-action movie..
