Feb 9 2009'Youngblood' and Brett Ratner: A Horrible but Appropriate Match

Hack director Brett Ratner has plans to direct hack comic book-maker Rob Liefeld's Youngblood, the Image comic known for its ridiculous musculature, excessive line work, scrunched angry faces, enormous guns, generally poor writing, and thousands and thousands of miniature pockets. In 1992, this would almost be worth worrying about:

The Indian media conglom has acquired Rob Liefeld’s iconic graphic novel “Youngblood” for Brett Ratner to direct.

The company paid mid six figures for the rights to “Youngblood,” about a superhero team sanctioned and overseen by the U.S. government.

“Most of the great graphic novels are gone, and ‘Youngblood’ is one of the few comicbooks left with tentpole potential,” Ratner told Daily Variety. “It was a real personal passion project for me, and a lot of people wanted (‘Youngblood’), but the amazing thing about the guys at Reliance is the speed with which they’re able to move.”

My biggest question is how Ratner will manage to get Brian Thomopson to play every character.

Ok so who's first in line to suck my penis because I am FIRST.

The most generic of the generic superhero teams. It was a dark time in comics.

LOL @ Brian Thompson... bonus, he can also play every X-Force character, should they get a cameo. They wouldn't even need different costumes, just nametags, or perhaps subtitles specifying who the onscreen character is. "The one with the sword and the gun is Shatterstar. No, not him, the one with the padded wrestling helmet. No, the brown padded wrestling helmet. It may have several pouches, I can't tell. Yeah, that's him."

Brian Thompson deserves our fear and respect (and a bit more fear) for being the Alien Bounty Hunter and laying down the line "Mr. Mulder . . . Everything Dies."

Still freaks me out.

At first I was pissed, because I thought it was STORMWATCH and that meant Ratner may fuck up Ellis' run as well as The Authority eventually, but I was wrong. There's nothing here for me, and that Brian Thomopson joke was worth a $100 million tentpole clusterfuck happneing.

It's not a graphic novel FFS. godamn hollywood pricks and their attempts to come off with any "deep" artistic credibility

Iconic? Youngblood? LMFAO!

“It was a real personal passion project for me, and a lot of people wanted Youngblood.

Who.
I want to know.

I bought 1 issue of this comic and threw it away 1/2 way thru it. Rob Liefeld could not draw nor write. And this comic showed it.

Dear God his characters had no feet, and his guns had no handles.

Wrost movie idea ever!!!! Of all classic Image comics Wetworks is the only Image comic I would like to see turn to film.

I think we are looking at the end of the "comic book" genre of films. Instead of preserving this run and take the time and effort to make a quality film, Hollywood would rather kill this golden goose to make a few quick bucks.

If only RomComs were this vulnerable.

The actors better start practicing their Liefeld faces.

PS: Thanks, Hollywood.
Thanks for doing a bang up job ruining the comics for all of us.
