Feb 19 2009Who Watches the 'Watchmen' 3 1/2 Hour DVD?

Let's fast forward a couple weeks. You're walking out a showing of Watchmen, thankful the movie met at least some of your expectations, and even more thankful to be free of the packed theater's body odor haze. You're thinking, "I'm the kind of guy or girl who buys movies on discs for home enjoyment. How many versions of this am I going to have to buy?" So let me tell you: Zack and Debbie Snyder told Collider the first release, which will likely contain the theatrical version and a 3:10 director's cut, will come out around Comic Con (late July, for non-nerds). Later in the fall, we'll get the Ultimate Edition--a three-hour twenty-five minute cut that includes the Tales of the Black Freighter story. Still no mention of a bulky, trinket-filled version that won't fit in your DVD shelf or a bare-bones, full-screen version for parents to buy for Christmas even though you specifically asked for the ephemera-filled box set.

(Thanks, Rick.)

Three and a half hours you say? That means AN EXTRA HOUR OF SLOW MOTION SHOTS! Thanks Zack and Deb! Can I call you Deb?

Yeah, if this movie were played at regular speed it would clock in a 38 mins...

Check out this hilarious short film about a down-on-his luck pornstar and his pissed off roommate!

rad I hated how much return of the king was cut for the theater, so that is perfect or someone like me

I'll wait for the ultimate ultimate edition with the 12 1/2 hr. version with all of the extras I would never watch like "The Grip's Diary" and the 1/2 hr. segment on how the Loop Wrangler found just the right people to play the voices of background actors.

Todders fuck off and die you pile of scum.

Pardon me for a moment.

F*** FULLSCREEN.

That is all.

#6 - word. (in THX)

Yeah I wonder what will be better. The longer versions of the LOTR series were definitly better so I wonder about Watchmen.

I cant wait to own this dvd.

I worked on Watchmen, I have seen the 3 hour, 10 minute cut, which I thought was 3 hours on the nose, but the end credits weren't added yet and maybe they're way long. I can tell you this: the long cut is good. It drags a little towards the end, but fans of the graphic novel will be tickled to see just how faithful the adaptation really is, finale notwithstanding. I haven't seen the theatrical cut and I can't imagine what they're cutting out to make it 2.5 hours... maybe shortening a bunch of scenes as opposed to cutting several long scenes, that's my guess.
