Feb 24 2009The Rorschach Diary Reading Series
Go into Watchmen with prior knowledge of every scene--and not just because it's a decade-old book that anyone who cares at all about comics has read. Warner Bros. has released two more clips from the film, so now you can see Rorschach investigate things while reading from his journal. It's the best diary reading from a man in a ridiculous costume since Diary of a Mad Black Woman:

Christian Bale, is that you?!?! DO NOT get in Rorschach's eyeline when he's doing his Batman voice.

and I'll wisper "No" but then I'll keep talking to myself because it's cool

So we're getting the whole movie in clips huh?

just curious, what'd you expect rorschach's voice to sound like? i was thinking something deep and low, but definitely not as gravely.

The graphic novel has truly come to life.
+10

I was always expected his voice to be a bit less gravelly, a bit more on the retarded end of the spectrum, speaking like a hard-ass rainman, mono-tone and emotionless but not Bale's Batman again. boo

Less gravely? What the hell's the matter with you people? Did you not see the shaky lines of the word bubbles around his words in the graphic novel?
Duh.
DUH!

Like JL said, with the shaky way his dialog was written back in '86, I always expected him to be quiet, monotone, almost bored but always, in my minds ear, it was gravely. Just because Bales Batman was filmed first, doesn't mean he owns the rights to that voice. So many times in the past, they have stolen ideas from the Watchmen, so whats one more thing?

Both clips just gave me a boner. Just got finished reading Watchmen over the weekend for the first time.... and this is the novel... no doubt about it.
My only regret is that I don't think we are going to get Hollis' recounted story of the mechanic manager wearing rubber breasts as he gets the Dear John letter from his wife, with Flight of the Valkyries playing in the background.

In the comic, Moore makes a point of his voice being monotone (it bothers Sally Jupiter)-I shouldn't even bother at this point, but this ain't monotone enough for me. It's not like there was no reference, there's a video on youtube of Moore reading Rorschach's journal and, of course, he gets it right, so why mess it up?
They also missed the part where he straightens a hanging wire out to measure the depth of the closet, so you can see him actually figuring stuff out that the police missed -woul've taken them 3 seconds to keep that in the movie and it represents a trait of the character. Bah.

bah, I agree with you. They way he found the costume in this clip was too direct. It gives the impression that he knew the comidian personally, knew about the closet already.. The hanger should have been there.

I noticed the hanger was missed, but I honestly didn't care that much. He was just as direct in his approach as in the comic. He just happened to find a poorly concealed button.
As for the voice, Moore's reading sounds terrible. No one would want to see a movie where the majority of a main character's dialogue is spoken like that except fanboys who can't get over themselves. The current voice does not sound too much like Bale's Batman. It's not overly lispy or angry sounding. He sounds bored. He never changes the tone or emotion of his voice. Seriously, just stop crying.

I was neither crying nor trolling Nick -but don't you think it's a little arrogant to say no one wants this or that? It is because people settle for what's fed to them that creative advancement for the masses moves at a snails pace.
I don't really see the issue with Moore's rendition and he's not an idiot, he wrote the book for fuck's sake. I can understand changing the story to fit certain constraints (like in Akira); but.... ah nevermind, it's pointless to argue -BTW, enjoy Dragon Ball.
14. Rorshach ruled, the rest was bizarre - March 9, 2009 10:56 PM
Rorshach and the actor who played him were bad effin ASS. too bad the rest of the movie ruined it with hilarious sex on Mars and lulz blue balls dangling all over the place...
