Feb 24 2009Michel Gondry Making 'Green Hornet' Out of Cardboard and Clouds
When it was announced Seth Rogen's portly face would be behind the mask of Green Hornet, it was definitely an odd, unexpected choice, but one tempered by the inclusion of Stephen Chow as both director and Kato. Maybe, with the aid of his comedy-action direction skills, Rogen as Green Hornet could be the new HEATH LEDGER IS THE ONLY JOKER EVER. It probably wouldn't be that hard, considering that the general perception of Green Hornet is somewhere in the range of "some dude in a suit and a green mask, I think" to "who?"
But then Chow dropped out from directing, and it looked like the film might not even get made. EXCEPT now Michel Gondry stepped out of his dream chamber and said he'll do it. So not only will this not be your grandpa's Green Hornet, this is shaping up the Green Hornet you never could have feasibly put together in your mind given infinite time.

interesting turn of events. wonder if they will have to overhaul the script any.

There's a reason this film has been banished in Development Hell since the early 90s: God's will. Don't fuck with God's will, Seth Rogen.

I hope it's entirely stop motion and includes hit singles from semi popular indie bands playing somewhere in the background the entire time.

While i love gondry.... I really dont know about the green hornet... just doesn't seem like something he would have a hand in. Sounds almost as weird as seth rogen being GH himself. I mean i used to love the show... and when i watched the show i never said to myself... hey they should have a comedian play him. That phrase never crossed my mind... till right ^there^

Amen, rubberSOULless .
As I recall, there is a chapter in Revelations that specifically lists a Green Hornet adaptation starring a portly man with a jew 'fro as one of the horseman of the apocalypse.

The Green Hornet has a pretty good chance of flopping for my early prediction. Not to mention all the unhappy stoners in the theater who came to see some lame jokes and baking friendly story lines. Seth Rogen sounds like a ridiculous casting call but I thought the same thing about Heath Ledger in the Dark Knight. Crazier things have happened......like Miley Cyrus' popularity
